Got to try on the YG DD40 with romans

I've been thinking about the DD40 for awhile now and the nearest ADs were too far away for me to stroll in for a 20min look around. Well I was able to get to an AD the other day and put on the YG DD40 and they just so happened to have the one I would want- the silver dial with romans:

Hodinkee's photo:

The president bracelet was the most impressive thing. I've read people describe that the bracelet drapes over your wrist and I never understood that until now. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.

Now anybody who is here knows that a YG Day-Date with a fluted bezel is going to be a showy piece. Even if you have never seen one in person. I knew that before I stepped into the AD, but it is something else in person. The whole watch is designed to reflect light- the silver sunburst dial, the roman hour markers, the fluted bezel, the polished sides of the case and bracelet. Frankly, the dial reflects light so much, I almost felt like I was distracted by it and telling the time was secondary.

Often a lot of people here say, "wear the watch, most people wouldn't notice unless they are WIS." And I was one off those people. I think I found the exception. What makes this watch different that my Pepsi is the yellow gold. Not only does the DD40 reflect light like crazy, it felt like the watch was glowing due to the yellow gold color. You have this on your wrist and if it is visible, people will notice. For me, it would be fun to have a showy piece and fall back on the GMT for something more subtle.

Size-wise this has been a concern for me- with 6" wrists, would this be too big? The answer is no- it's about the same size as my GMT which fits. I took a look at the bracelet, and any concerns about fitting it have been resolved.

Just amazing.
Got to try on a few things, not really sure where I want to go with this, especially with Basel coming up so soon.

I’m considering one as well. After looking at all the options in person, I think champagne dial with sticks will be the choice for me.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any combo though.

I’m between this exact reference and the 116618LB (YG sub with blue dial).
The more and more I see the DD40, the more I love it.

It sounds like you already set your heart on the DD.
I wouldn't worry about Basel too much.
The YG DD with Romans is pretty much the classic DD so I can't imagine it changing too much - if at all.
If your worried there will be another version released that you may prefer, then fair enough it's only a few weeks away, although bare in mind it may be several months before any new releases start filtering through to the AD's.
Good luck anyway whatever you decide and don't forget to keep us updated with lots of pics!

Tried on the YG SkyD last year and felt the same way. Almost too blingy actually, hard to tell the time without being blinded lol
