Got a call from dealer to get blue skydweller

Hello, buddys.
I am from Hong Kong. Just got a call from local dealer to get the blue dial Sky deeller at ~$usd 18500. Wanna listen your guys opinion to get this or get a black dial new daytona at ~$19000.
Thanks.

Guys, I really like the blue dial one but there is a 32% premium from a local AD. But I never had a Daytona before either. Just a hard dilemma for me. I like blue dial and I had a steel YMII , and a blue Omega PO 45.5mm. And my wife kept saying I have too much blue watches.

The SkyDweller is a pretty watch but too big for my wrist. The DaytonaC would fit better and the Daytona is a classic, will always be in demand. The SDw couldn't sustain enough popularity to keep a PM model in the line up. From a movement standpoint it is unique in the Rolex line up. If they could have packaged the SDw in a 40mm case I think it would be much more popular. The new SS versions have put the watch within reach of a much larger base so it is in short supply. Hence the price. I'm glad US AD's don't markup the prices like that.

32% premium is a lot. but that blue dial skydweller is just gorgeous in my opinion compared to the black and white dial. If you really want it, get it. That model is really hard to come by.

Go for the SkyD.
It’s a gorgeous watch and, from what I’ve seen, you are going to be waiting for years before a local AD can get you one

It is what it is for the prices.

Go Daytona, you know its a classic and will still hold its value when kingdom comes.

I would get the Daytona. I like the design and look. I also think that while you are paying a premium the Daytona-C has the chance to retain more value based on what you paid as opposed to the SD.

If value retention matters that much to you then Daytona is my guess. I personally would go Sky Dweller blue or white

Yeah, that's the norm in Hong Kong at the moment. Seems like almost all of the SS and Professional models that reach the AD's are either kept for buyers who are willing to pay a premium, or go straight to favoured grey dealers and they split the profit on the subsequent sale to the end-user.

Am I annoyed at the AD's for doing this? Yes, I am a little annoyed to say the least. But they did have three very lean years previously when demand from mainland tourists dwindled due to the anti-corruption campaign by the Central Government and I'm told Rolex is letting them sell at prices over MSRP to make up for the lost years.

Am I annoyed at the grey dealers for the current situation? Yes, a little annoyed. But grey dealers are merely doing what they do best which is to profit from market imbalances and price dislocations. We all know grey dealers have to stomach countless Day-dates and Day-justs so they can get their hands onto sought-after models. They do take some sizeable risks.

There is nothing Rolex can do to improve the situation in the short term. We just have to wait for Rolex to normalise supply of SS and Professional models or a major correction in global financial markets.

In the meantime, I choose to sit on the sideline. I was gyming at the Hong Kong Jockey Club clubhouse just now and saw the Audemars Piguet ROO QE-II limited edition on display. It's a huge watch (won't hide under the shirt sleeve cuff) and costs a hefty HK$265,000 but I might be tempted. No waiting list for club members and look nicer than the more expensive WG Pepsi GMT II.

It is sad that many SS sport Rolex model in Hong Kong have shortage since last quarter 2017. And the situation worsen since February 2018. Personally, I have never seen any SS sky dweller in any local ad.
