Omega Seamaster 300- bracelet 21mm issues
I bought this watch twice and just parted with it again and at a significant loss of money. I understand that though, it is part of the game when buying a new watch sometimes.
It is impressive in many ways. But to an old timer like me, on the bracelet, it is kind of heavy. That is though, I think, just the way it is today. Watches are bigger, heavier, and this one has some pretty modern innards that I think are heavy. The bracelet is too and has a huge clasp on it. So I wanted it off the bracelet and here is where the problem arises. I would love a nice rubber strap on it, like on my Seiko. But at 21mm, they are hard if not impossible to find, especially if you need an extra long size for a big wrist. And unlike Seiko, it will not cost $20-$25. Omega straps are hundreds of dollars. So... it is a drag! At first I wore it on a Nato, and liked it that way but tired of it. It looked cool on this Desert Tan, but it was 20mm, and the little space led to a minor accident. I reached in a shopping bag, and it hit the lug and it popped off. The watch stayed on though. It also makes the watch sit even higher. I was considering leather, but even there, hard to find for a big wrist at 21mm. I was thinking of giving it another try on the bracelet. This time, I never had it on the OEM bracelet. But I know it would bug me as too heavy. Have you experienced any of the same? Your takes on this are welcomed and appreciated! |

21mm lug with is a complete bummer, especially if you are a strap guy like I am these days. I know there are 21mm straps and nato straps out there, they are just hard to find. I don't own a watch with 21mm lug with but I have seen them while searching for straps for other watches.
Here are some I have seen recently. http://www.thewatchboys.com/iwc®-st...1mm-c-5_9.html Ebay should have some also. I do have one of the Kevlar look straps in 20mm and it is pretty nice. You can find a buckle on ebay for $4, I got one and it fits nice. Good luck.

I really like this watch and thought about one but in my research I found a different issue. There seem to be no way of having just 4 links at 6 o'clock without the old solution of removing a permanente link. I have small wrists and I need four links at six to make it perfect so this is unbelievable especially in this day and age.

I discovered a guy, "Jones Tokyo" or something like that and almost made the purchase, $90, is that where you got yours? Well, the watch is gone now. It also got complicated because I just got an explorer 214270 and I love it. It almost opposes the seamaster 300 w a much slimmer profile. Who knows, I'll keep my eyes open and may get the Omega again, maybe the 3rd time I'll get it right lol It was discouraging though and a hassle. And the ones I see aren't cheap! Out of all the watches I have owned, the 300 had the best legibility and lume- very easy to read the time on it. Marvelously handsome, but why so difficult w the 21mm. Also, I was nervous about servicing it, should the need arise. I have a great tech, but he doesn't mess w modern Omega. Thank you for your comment! Your watch looks great!

I would flip it for the titanium version on a bracelet. 30% lighter according to one source on the web. I love titanium has a cool look to it.

http://www.roverhaven.com/ It's something else to have customized straps that not only cater to your aesthetic preferences AS well as fit.....just so snug and really changes the timepiece. You're right about servicing though, you'd have to be certified from Omega with their courses for co-axial movements. I'm lucky my local watchmaker I use for Rolex/Omega is fully certified with both and is CW21, so he does everything for me. He tells me it's extra work for sure with the coaxial watches and should be careful where you service the piece outside of Omega. He takes mail ins if you need an independent familiar with Omega, D's Time Service here in San Diego, just ask for Tom. |

I owned this watch for a while and found it too heavy and too tall/thick.
