Just got off the phone with dallas RSC. They said I can change the dial on my grape OP to white or black (with full service only). But I could never go back to grape since those dials (slate and grape) are considered special dials. They also said they dont have any slate or grape dials in stock and dont expect to get any in.

Sorry if this was common knowledge already.

Are you going to do the switch?

No, I brought the grape to add color to my collection. I would only change to a full lumed grape dial like the white/black. I was just gathering information to see what options were out there.

BTW I just spoke to a customer rep on the phone and not a tech

Huh. The usual rule is indeed that you can change dials down or sideways but not up (not to a dial available only on a more expensive model). But all the OP 39's have the same retail price, don't they? If the new ones are a little cheaper, then that would make sense.

In some European countries the Rolex dial-police is a little less strict and they just give it back to you in case you want to switch back later.

That should be the standard.

I wonder if on the Daytona 116500 if you Rolex would let you change the dial from black to white dial or vice-versa?

If Rolex originally offered other dials for your model number, you can switch dials. Otherwise it doesn’t work. The model numbers for the watches would have to match.
