Flat 4 Sudmariner

Evening All

Looking to buy a flat 4 Sudmariner, does any one no what dates they ran too, I believe they started in 2003 until ?

And what sort of money should I be looking to pay with box and paperwork?

Many Thanks

Haha, the flat 4 isn’t mine - one out my brother-in-laws collection that I’d taken a picture of tonight as we there for dinner and he’d been wearing it. It’s a great example of one though.

If you find a flat 4 Sudmariner that would be one-of-a-kind...
The flat 4 Submariners go anywhere upwards of 17.5K USD

The flat four font has been used many time over the past 40 years on most all Subs and SD, and from 2003/4 was on all Subs and SD models.

Or...according to some recent posts here on the Forums, you could just buy any 5 digit 16610LV and send it into the Rolex service center and ask for a new insert with the chance of it coming back with a brand new 2018 Flat 4 LV insert put on it! Apparently they surprised at least one lucky LV owner whom sent his pointed 4 watch in with just that!

I’m sure they didn’t know you have dyslexia. They probably thought you just had poor spelling. I’m certain they wouldn’t have made the comments had they known of your disability. It might make sense for someone in your situation to utilize the assistance of a spellchecker program. Just a helpful suggestion.

Apologies, you are quite right. I had no intention of mocking, I can assure you. I sometimes find autocorrect makes bizarre choices and that's all I thought it was.

Have to agree but thanks to the hype from the internet the flat four font is the greatest thing since sliced bread. And we must remember the LV with the flat four font is the only true anniversary sub I dont think,as all 16610LV are anniversary subs.

Does this qualify for a "flat 4"?

Better get used to it. With Rolex being a mass-produced watch, it's the small details that set one apart from the next. That isn't going to change anytime soon.

I prefer the flat four purely due to aesthetics, regardless of model. I also prefer open 6 and 9 date wheels. And, I prefer scratches to a fresh polish. That's what makes it interesting in a sea of ubiquity.

I find the contradicting opinions interesting on the value or merit of the flat four on an LV. To me it’s just another subtle variation on a collectible watch that makes it more unique, hence more valuable. This hobby is so interesting in part because of all these subtle differences in reference variations. One can go on an on discussing this, but a Mark 1 LV dial with a flat four represents the first version released hence the premium price.

Yes...there is no doubt the internet and high res pictures have forever changed the landscape of what’s considered rare and special! And, with my example above, it’s only a matter of time that we see some poor inexperienced fellow think he’s got his hands on a true anniversary addition when it has an M serial and a fresh Flat 4 OEM insert. Still very desirable watch, but a True Flat 4 Anniversary it is Not!

Yes, that is definitely a Flat 4, but on a 16610 LN (Black Bezel), it’s of no particular consequence of desirability! Now if it was on a 1st year run of an LV it would be worth far more then it’s weight in Gold!
