Air King or Polar Explorer
There is just something about the Air King that I like. The more pictures I see of them, the more I’d like to find one in person. I also really like the polar explorer. The price of the 5 digits have dropped to where they would be less than an AK so that’s where the dilemma comes into play.

My recommendation is to get what you like because the other watch won’t scratch the itch. For me, I prefer the Polar but that’s just what I prefer.

I'd go with the polar but if you can swing it go for both. Sounds like the Airking is calling to you. Happy Hunting.

Definitely the polar explorer for me.
The white dial polar can be sport or dress depending how you wear it. look good with bracelet, rubber b or nato strap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the price of an excellent condition 16570 in white is close enough to that of the AK that you can go based solely on personal preference. If you are interested in the 116900 the dial is quite busy which is a stark contrast to the vast white plane of the 16570.

Polar Explorer II, my hands down favorite Rolex.

I love my Air-King. The polar is nice but it’s a tad big on my wrist. I also prefer no date complication. My .02¢

Although I like the current Polar Explorer II better, I would take the five digit Explorer II over the Air King.

Get it... there's nothing worse than buyers remorse. Really is that simple. If you love the quirky layout of the dial, the green seconds hand. Green accented text etc... Nothing will fill that void. Buy it, love it :) |

The polar has a useful complication and the longer you wait, the pricier it’ll get.

The AirKing is a bit quirky but that’s why it appeals to me.
If it appeals to you then go for it.

The Air-King is a fabulous watch It's yellow-green theme is from the cockpit instruments of the Bloodhound Super-Sonic car.
the Air king... is so different in the rolex world a one off watch ..when you see one in the flesh all the mismatched parts on a photo come together The Airking watch cannot be fully understood unless it is worn and only then do you see the dial ..look at the 3 6 9 and it's an hour watch ..look at the 5 10 20 and it's a minute watch..look at it at a different light and the dial becomes 3D it's superb and as a bonus it's housed in a milgauss case It reminds me of an old English Smiths w10 military watch.the watch worn by the Royal Air Force and British Army Officers. it's a future classic My choice go for the Air-King |

If Rolex used that right hand layout with the sub dial for a second timezone, I would have bought one.

It really comes down to the one you want the most, since it's you who will be buying it and wearing it. If it's a dead heat, you can buy the first one that turns up or maybe in the longer term, own both.
For me the Polar is miles out in front in that pair. But I'm not you. |

I agree with many of the fine gents above - get what YOU want. If your heart sings every time you look at an Air King, that’s the one. If your browsing history is full of five digit polar bookmarks with pictures to boot, then that is the one for you. All of us will tell you how to spend money and what we like on our subjective tastes - but this is your watch so get what makes you happy and then post a ton of wrist shots.
