I'd consider a WIS someone with a passion for watches- not just those costing 5 figures.
Seiko have, at any given price point, offered great design and accesible innovation to anyone who wants to collect watches. Not just the mechanical watches, but digital, duo display, anything and everything.

To me, a Seiko has to be cheap and fun to wear. For Grand Seiko price, I’ll collect some other better watches with heritage, like the omegas or JLC.

Don’t be so short-sighted!
“Better” is often a subjective term, depending on the criteria being assessed, but Seiko has plenty of heritage, which if you’re unfamiliar with, you should spend more time researching – especially the early 60’s Chronometer competitions.

That post made me laugh.
Speaking about heritage, do you know how old Seiko is and how much business some ‚heritage’ brands (like JLC) where doing in the 70s and 80s during the Quartz crisis?

Heritage is not about age alone lol it’s more than that. It’s craftsmanship and skills in watchmaking inheritance through generation of passions.

Anyway, if you deem Seiko is art, so be it.
I paid $100 for Seiko, not a penny more not a penny less

Funny, eh?

Seiko has the capability to produce everything inhouse, probably to an even higher degree than Rolex. Craftmanship and watchmaking skills through generations of passionate and skilled people IS Grand Seiko and Seiko and GS are highly respected in all their price levels and over decades.

May I suggest that you expand your knowledge a bit about the brand?

As you have been paying $100 for your Seiko - Omega‘s mother company (Swatch Group) makes Swatch for prices below that. What does it tell about Omega?

I've been wearing Seikos since the 7TH grade (I'm pushing 60!!). A family friend gave me his World Time when he returned from Vietnam. Still have it and wear it. He died this year from cancer, may wear it today in his memory. Wore a 6309 (?) for years on the road in LE. My FIL gave me a Seiko auto from the early 70's he found in a desk drawer when they moved. It had been sitting for probably 20 years, gave it a shake and away it went!!! Not too many brands could do that.

I’ve known about Seiko since my teens .
Had quite a few divers before I moved to Rolex.
I gifted all my Seikos to my brother n laws years ago.

I’d get a GS now as a nice dress watch since I don’t
have a dress watch ...

I definitely think they are getting even bigger in the WIS community, especially as things are getting so expensive in the rest of the watch world...the divers and GMT selection especially are really impressive!

Was never interested in Seiko before joining the forum. Now I’m considering buying one or two. Certainly will have a GRand Seiko sometime next year. I guess the long wait to get a Rolex is certainly fueling some of this

Agreed. IMO, those who have been into watches have always considered Seiko to be a serious watch brand with tons of heritage and first rate quality worthy of consideration. Watches don't always need to have atmospheric prices to be noticed by serious watch collectors.

This is probably one of the reason why. Macro shots of Rolex, Omega and GS hands comparison. https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/com...comparison_of/
