Can it be genuine but it is a later/service bezel?

Why stop at comparing the bezels?

Perhaps a closer look at the dials, too?

IIRC there are great references in the GMT dial and bezels threads on TRF.

My idea is you’d first want to match-up the dials you see in those photo’s before jumping to an insert. The real question is whether that insert is proper for that dial - or a mismatch vs. a replica.

Then compare the first appearance of the Coke in GMT II history to the dial’s era.

Then go to the fonts on the inserts.

Just my opinion that taking the whole picture into view is better than just one element.

I agree with you.
Hence, if you see any missmatch pls highlight it.

Ah...I see you want a fish vs. doing the fishing. Not a rant, but I believe strongly in doing your own research with tools and search ability. Then frame the question within the context of your findings.

Good luck in your quest.

Fonts vary on inserts, even on these more modern GMTs. Not sure you can pin down the exact font style to 1-2 years. There were slightly thinner-font inserts, serif, non-serif, etc ... Also, keep in mind that inserts are swapped all the time on these watches, so who knows what the watch originally came with.

I personally would be much more focused on the actual watch. On vintage GMTs and Subs, issues with inserts can mean a ton of money, of course, but on these more modern references, inserts can easily be changed relatively inexpensively.

Here are two of my recent 16700s, with two different styles of inserts, both genuine, one older and one a recent installation by the Rolex Service Center in NYC.

Ohhh dear, feel free to ignore this thread.
I asked a question as I was intrigued by the difference in fonts.
If you can give an informed opinion pls do. Otherwise, as mentioned, do ignore it.
Don’t be the fish out of water yourself if you simply have no clue!

@Swiss77
Thank you for your explanation.
I am aware inserts are often changed. I was wondering if this one is a fake
one or it is an obvious later “upgrade” as the font is different.

Circa 1991, the fonts should be as pictured in the photo below.

Thank you Springer and everyone else for your replies.
It was a simple curiosity.

The owner was claiming that insert was original and period correct. I hv little experience with these bezels but the bezel did not look right to me and I initially thought it might be fake one.....
Just a learning experience.
