Do employees of an AD work on commission?

Anyone know?

Depends on the store. My local one does not but Wempe for example does.

Interesting. I am near NY so didn't know they worked on commission. Do you know how much % per sale?

My AD claims they don’t—I’m sure there are sales incentives though. I suspect for them they don’t make xxx dollars per watch, but if they sell a certain volume in a quarter/half/year there are cash bonuses.

I’d love to know the margin....:

Mine does.

I'm cool with that. In my experience, the commission reps have always been very helpful, and will push hard if they like you.

One of the local ones here stated that they do not. SA told me that if I was interested in coming back and pulling the trigger "anyone can help you as we are not commissioned"

Margin on every new Rolex is 38%. AD pays 62% of msrp to RUSA and they own all their stock. Rolex used to give AD's a 2 or 3% discount if they paid their invoice in under 30 days. Don't know if they still do this and to answer the OP's original question, I am sure every AD has their own pay structure.

Big chains in Uk do, though it’s monthly target based.

One of my AD’s says they get 1% of the total sale. But this is on top of a salary.

That’s a good question. I’m sure they may have sales totals they need to reach especially if they sell other jewelry..

Actually now, it's not sales it's telling people they can't buy what they came in for - regardless of commission structure.

Two that I knew, one in NYC the other in Orlando told me 5%. If there was any discount at all it fell to 1%.

AD owner “Hey guys, this month there’s a special 20% of MSRP commission on all Stainless Steel watches sold”

AD Sales Agent “Yes boss, but there aren’t any stainless steel in stock”

That makes sense and seems that it’s easy to tell which ones work for commission as they tend to be the nicest and the ones more likely to work hard for you

If this is the case, I wonder if each salesperson is on a waiting list with their own work in hopes of landing a bloody watch to sell their clients so that thy can make their commission. Would explain why you often get zero attention when you walk into an AD asking for a Daytona.

If paid by commission, their goals would be aligned with Rolex and the ADs: Higher income/profit selling DJ/TT/PM. It's a win-win-win for Rolex, AD, and sale associates.

What makes sense to me is no commission for hot watches. No sweat on moving those pieces. However, a commission is rightfully so for hard to move watches.

Well it depends on the country as well, the AD I'm working at based our commission on a guideline by Rolex.

In Turkey they do not work with comission but rich customers always tip them like 100-1000$ during a purchase. Tip increases especially when the watch is one of hot shot pieces. For this reason you can't possibly get a hulk, BLNR, daytonaC from an AD in Turkey if you are not a VIP or you somehow find a way to convince them that you are going to "tip" if you get the watch.

My AD pays base plus commissions. It works out ok as they have an individual goal as well as a team goal for the store so they help each other.

Mine says they don't. I believe it's more about targets and growth at my AD.
