My personal letdown in the past was seeing a ceramic bezel watch for the first time. I still like the older aluminum bezel Subs and GMTs better. Maybe it's because I was lucky enough to have purchased two of the most sought after vintage pieces new back in the 70's.

Rolex models have always impressed me in person, even the older 5 digit models. I have been disappointed by Omega a couple of times though, didn't quite feel the hype about the Moonwatch and the Speedmaster 57 was indeed underwhelming.

What always underwhelms me about other brands is the quality of the bracelet. I believe that’s where Rolex beats every other maker.
I always bend my wrist in when trying on other watches, including Omega. They never have enough taper and the fat wide clasp binds up. It’s a deal killer. Nothing is as comfortable to me as a Rolex bracelet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That actually happen to me quite often, which is why it's dangerous to confirm a purchase sight unseen. Website promotion pics and photo reviews are intented to show off the timepiece in the best possible way and it may fall flat in reality. Even online video is not a replacement to check out the actual watch. For that one has to see actual. And best to do it under natural light.

BLNR
I was offered one by an AD a few months ago but politely declined upon seeing it in the metal. Pretty sure someone else wanted it more than I did, hopefully not a flipper but who am I kidding. |

I ask because I've never experienced this with a bracelet, and I find that less taper helps to keep a watch balanced. I wear my watches in the more common position, but loose. Sent from my SM-J327P using Tapatalk

I put them a little higher on the wrist, but they invariably fall down my wrist when standing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It was sturdy but felt very very cheap and flimsy made. |

5 digit model bracelets without SELs are rattly and lack the build quality of later models. For that reason I really like the 116520 Daytona over the previous model and over the newer ceramic model. To me, the 116520’s are undervalued at the moment and they are my favourite SS Daytona’s. I’m not too hot about the ceramic bezel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’ve had two 5 digit watches and until I put on my new BLRO with the jubilee, they were the most comfortable bracelet I’ve had. Cheaper than the new SEL bracelets? Yes. Disappointing to find a stamped bracelet on a Rolex? Yes. Still well engineered for what it is. I admit the old folded link bracelets were uncalled for, but that was a long time ago. If you want to feel cheap, try on a Seiko 5. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
