Isn’t it ironic?

Back in the 70s, mechanical watches were said to be doomed. Many manufacturers in Switzerland either failed or, suffered almost catastrophic economic hardship. In the 90s we saw a reemergence of the mechanical watch as an unlikely luxury item, only to experience another set-back in the mid 2000s, when the economic downturn converted luxury goods into items of ridicule. Then came the ubiquitous time-on-your-phone and, the smart watch and, yet again, doomsday predictions for the mechanical luxury watch were rampant. “Will the new generation wear apple watches?”...purists shuddered...

The reality and, possibly inconvenient truth, that many TRF members prefer not to debate is that our watches are no longer purchased to fulfill their intended use, rather they’re simply outward statements to society of our individual: taste, style and, status.

Polarizing view?

Mine still tells the time. That's why I wear one.
