100 Years Northern Goldsmiths

Thursday evening was rather splendid.

Newcastle upon Tyne, Northern Goldsmith was the first outlet for Rolex watch, a partnership created in 1919. On Thursday they celebrated the event with a splendid evening of wine, food and entertainment in a joint venture with Rolex and Watches of Switzerland.

Yes it was great, with fireworks and Lamar - I had to Google him, but he was very good, but what was even nicer, was to get together with people who have emptied my pockets in exchange for watches for some time now.

I probably bored the pants of a number of very nice people from Rolex and WoS, they were extremely polite however. Mrs Kevan was extremely well looked after and I am thankful that I took the car.

Thank you to all involved, especially David of NGS who has provided me with a number of treasured watches for many years now.

100 Years Northern Goldsmiths

Looks like a nice evening!

My AD was telling me about this a couple of days ago and to think it’s been 100 years since they’ve been doing business together is great.

I was fortunate enough to have picked up a 16760 GMT Master (Fat Lady) from my AD a couple of years and was an mint preowned example with a jubilee. We’d bought it as a birth year watch for my brother (who was turning 30 that year) and this was one of the last produced ones. What was particularly nice about it though is that it had been originally supplied and sold by the Newcastle store in 1988.

He now has three generations, his grandfather's DJ, a Sub C that he received for his 21st. and I gave him my steel Daytona last Christmas.

Similarly, his sister has my brother's Pepsi, her own DJ, purchased with her own hard earned cash and the first Rolex that I ever bought my wife.

I hope that my grandchildren are privileged sufficiently to continue the tradition.

One of the stories that I bored some poor guy from Rolex with on Thursday evening.

Looks like a great night, the Goldsmiths nearest me is very good but then they only deal with Omega and Tags, no Rolex.
