Explorer II 16570 Dial Font Spacing
I recently purchased an F-serial (2004/2005) 16570. I noticed that the font spacing for “Oyster Perpetual Date” seems a bit unusual. The words are significantly wider apart than other images I’ve found online. I’ve only been able to find 1 other watch online with similar spacing, also an F-serial.
I’ve attached a couple of images, apologies for the zoom and quality. My question for the community: Was this a limited dial run Rolex did? Has anyone seen anything similar? I noticed a number of dial variations on the 16570, but this one seems especially unusual. Thanks! |

Seems consistent with my F serial. Sorry for the photo quality.

And?
Looks like an explorer can’t say I give any weight to the letters beyond their authenticity.

Here is one of mine, a P-serial prefix..
You can see that this one has a slightly different Serif font, so the spacing is closer to cover the same breadth.

There are always subtle variations in these dials. My 2014 happens to be one of the Daytona’s where with a gap between the g and a in chronograph.

As some have already pointed out subtle dial variations usually occur throughout productin runs. The other F serial posted has identical spacing. Here's another F serial I found on HQ Milton.

Explorer II 16570 Dial Font Spacing
Here’s a Y serial (2002?). To my eye the spacing on the above V serial looks smaller than the F and more similar to my (earlier) Y.

Perhaps we need a colloquial name for these F-series variants. Maybe a “wide-words” Explorer?

I just bought a F serial Polar Explorer 2 this week as well. I was concerned the spacing for the "Date" looked a little "off" but after reading these posts, I am now assured there is nothing to worry about. Thanks folks!
