Joining Rolex DJ Fam

Hi Guys

Joined the forum today, flew over from the Breitling forum :)
As an watch enthusiast but also an unknowing customer I'm doing some research on the vintage Dj's. Off-course with the main goal to buy my first Rolex.

Been reading on the forum all day, read some new and interesting stuff!

This said, I have a weak spot for the 1601. An amazing watch with a long history. A nearby secondhand watch jewellery has some great pieces in stock. What do you guys think of the watches, how do they look? Correct pricing? period correct dials/bracelet? bracelets/lugs still in good condition?

Because I haven't got 10 posts I can't post the link directly

Thx for your opinion!

Ruben

You might want to decide which of the seven watches you are most interested in and post a bunch of photos directly to the thread. Prices are obviously quite high, as expected from a dealer/retailer.

The good news is they are plentiful. Dials, hands and bezels are easily and cheaply replaceable, bracelets less so. Buy the best case and bracelet you can afford. By best case, look for one with good shape and not polished so much that the lug holes are almost at the bottom of the lugs for example.

Ok thanks! Will do some more research about the bracelets.
But there is a guy on the forum that "refurbished" them? Come across something like that...

I requested... not sure if they will send it.

On what details do you check from the side? Or just to be sure its in good condition?

Various things from a side view can tell you if the watch is badly overpolished. Also, if the views are completely missing, you never know what a seller might be hiding. This watch has the look of a carefully dealer-prepped piece, so I don't expect that there will be major hidden damage, but it's better to see everything up front so you're not in for an unpleasant surprise.

Obviously, they are asking top dollar for this piece, so it should be in good condition.

If they won't send you reasonable pictures that you request. Then walk away. Genuine sellers dealers will be happy to supply whatever pictures you request.

Loads of great DJs out there.

So does this means this isn't the original dial?

There's really no way to know if the dial is original. It's a legit dial though.

It’s period correct. Nothing more, nothing less, unless it has pictures of original owner wearing it (not likely)

Nice dial. I don’t like the wear between lugs. Remember import tax into EU.
