Clasp Question

Hey all, I was hoping someone could answer a question for me. I sold my Yachtmaster to a fellow forum member and he said that while he didn't originally see it, upon close inspection it appears that someone has tinkered with the part of the clasp that pops down on top of the main clasp- the same thing that you find on Subs and the like.

So, if he took it to RSC would they just be able to replace that little part of the clasp or will they want to replace the entire clasp? Anyone have any idea how much something like that would cost? Thanks!

I take it you purchased the watch used also and never noticed such ? How old is the watch also?

No I never noticed it or I would have addressed the issue. It's a Z.

My guess is that it was doing something similar to my Sub as in the safety clasp was getting loose and they decided to tighten it on their own.

I'm sure you'd have noticed if it'd had been significantly tweaked !!

If the fliplock is loose, the fix is to bend the sides in a bit so it is tighter....

I don't think that we can say what the RSC will do, but it would have to be pretty bent up to not be able to bend it back to a proper shape...

A loose flip lock is easy to see.
Anyway sometime ago I sold a yacht master to a lady that as she tried to open the flip lock the wrong way (not the correct folding way) she bend it a little.
A competent watchmaker or Jeweler will fix it.

Um, I'm not sure if you're implying that it's me being dishonest in saying that I didn't notice this or the buyer in saying that there's a problem that's not really there, but I hope I don't offend anyone by saying that I'm not looking for opinion on the situation itself, but rather what RSC would do and what this would run to get fixed.

The safety clasp always snapped tighter than on my Sub, but to be honest I like that because I feel my Sub's might be too loose if anything. The buyer's not presenting this as a big deal or blowing it out of proportion, but I as a seller want to make it right within reason so I'm just wondering what would be involved. From searching an older thread where someone's safety clasp actually came off, I tend to think we'll just be able to get a new safety clasp and he lives in a city with an RSC.

I'm sure that as a typical WIS you would have noticed if there had been even the slightest problem with the YM flip-lock, perhaps the buyer is making something out of nothing.

Anyway, I called RSC and they can replace the safety clasp for $45 so we should be all good.
