That would be cool. I would also like to see a DD40, smooth bezel on a strap...

Agree with above, just don't see the cyclops are a maker / breaker. I'd prefer it to be absent but wouldn't stop me from adding. 42 probably would.

I've been delaying my SD purchase since last year due to possibility of 50th anniversary edition. I wouldn't buy it if it's the once rumored gradient green dial. Would I buy it with cyclops? Probably yes! But it's not because I like cyclops (I strongly prefer one without cyclops). I want a Rolex diver with date function that is smaller/thinner than DSSD and prefer the SD bezel markings over sub's, ......in that case I've been left no other choice! Adding a cyclops making it less appealing and it appears that more people are thinking that way than otherwise!

Sir, take a look at Baselworld 2013. First off they released the Anniversary Daytona... First Daytona in Platinum, first Daytona to have a ceramic bezel as well. Then they released the BLNR. If that wasn't enough, they released the Y-M2 in steel. They then decided to go a little crazy with all of the color options with a new range of DD's which has since been discontinued... All of the straps matched the dials on these models. A new Pearlmaster and diamond DD were released as well. There is definitely precedent to release a bunch of new, exciting watches at one BW.

Is Titanium really that much more expensive than steel to source and machine? There are lots of Titanium watches on the market well below a Rolex price point.

Or is there some other reason that folks are interested in Titanium? Imo, if it's just about the weight of the case and bracelet, it would be a big mistake. That "feel" and substantiality of steel is something I look forward to and I feel that it would be lacking in titanium. Again, it's a preference thing; I get that. |

I think there are many who probably couldn't see the benefit of paying $2000 dollars over the cost of a Sub for a complication (greater depth ratings and hsv) that doesn't have any utility for them. Especially when you consider that only an infinitesimally small amount of consumers buy the Submariner (at a much lower price point) for it's actual utility as a tool watch made for diving. As I said in my earlier post, many are scared to eat spaghetti or have relations with their significant others with their watch on much less take it the length of three football (American) fields underwater. They buy Subs because it's become the quintessential Rolex. In my humble opinion, Rolex is smart to rebrand the Sea Dweller as a Submariner on steroids. Giving it a cyclops (mimicking an already successful stylistic draw) and making it bigger would accomplish that. |
