Sorry, I responded to your original post prior to the edit. The original package arrived on June 13th (the same day I started this thread). After the package arrive the police were on scene within 1.5 hours, 20 minutes after I made contact with the seller. I was upset with how it turned out, especially given how excited I was to make my first watch purchase in years, and so looked the next day on June 14th for the exact watch I originally wanted. I confirmed the purchase with Vince midday that day and he had the watch shipped out, which arrived this morning on the 15th.

You are making accusations.
Nope......just seems odd to me. I would totally be totally rattled in this situation, and not able to move forward with any other purchases until this was resolved. Apparently the OP is a cooler customer than me, and can still function fairly normally, and calmly buy another watch in the midst of this turmoil. Kudos!

Sorry, you're completely right, I'm on German time zone, so your first post is showing as June 14, and I correlated your 'this morning post' with June 14 morning.

Not the way I would have played it but I guess he saw an opportunity and took it. Kudos to OP

At least we know what box, packaging AND watch weighs. Has anyone, buyer or seller, contacted the UPS store and asked them to check the scale accuracy in the store? 0.5lb difference is huge. I'm sure there is at least one weigh point in the shipping cycle so it'll be interesting to see what UPS come back with as in-transit weight

Maybe it was bad judgement to risk shipping it again, but I tried to take countermeasures to mitigate risk (references, PayPal, credit card) as suggested by other forum posters and I’m happy this was a successful and safe transaction.

I actually discussed this whole issue with vinceb prior to the purchase and have been completely open about what happened and why I was buying this watch (as the previous watch I purchased never arrived). He even helped shed light on the claims process as well from his experiences with missing packages, telling me that in one case they interviewed every employee that handled the package. Thankfully, everything has concluded well and we are both happy with the transaction.

Again, thank you for raising everything civilly and of course I’m always happy to clarify.
Congratulations, OP. Glad you enjoy your watch!

No worries, if it helps, I’m on PST in California. The original transaction took place on June 12th, received and filed police report on the 13th, made the transaction with vinceb on the 14th, and watch arrived here today on the 15th.

I contacted the UPS store where it was shipped today and asked but they told me that nothing was wrong with their scale. Apparently there was a mix-up because UPS was supposed to send an investigator today at noon, but I just received a call from someone at UPS who said they had no record of it and would be getting an inspector to call me to set up a time most likely on Monday. They have not yet called me.

Honestly it was less an opportunity and more a lust for the watch. The anticipation of it finally coming to fruition the first time had me almost seeing it on my wrist, and after the empty box arrived I just couldn’t get that image out of my head anymore. Sorry if this sounds a little cheesy, but that’s pretty much how it felt.

What does the Rolex box, watch and paperwork weigh by itself and also with outer shipping box (minus interior packaging)

I wouldn’t say that, I was not comfortable at all paying with wire and explained so to Vince, he was happy to do the transaction through PayPal with CC. My credit card company has protected me before in the past—the trust is with them.

I can inject what I want, its a thread Something is wrong somewhere......there's a watch missing. If you read the rest of my post, I complemented the OP on being a cool customer, and being able to remain calm and purchase another watch.

Yup, me too. As I mentioned earlier on, I have extensive experience with USPS and am 100% they have in transit 'checks'. I'm fairly certain it's the initial depot/sorting station, but I could be wrong. Would make sense for UPS to have this as well.

Not sure about this situation, as the send to addy and origination addy were just hours apart. Not long distance.

Long distance or not, I'm sure they would go through the same initial channels. UPS are not going to rely on their franchisees to accurately record weights. And the weights are probably recorded on a conveyor belt in almost real time and tied to the tracking number. I wouldn't be surprised if the outer box measurements are also recorded by laser

Hey Al,

I've started another post on the watch under the Watch Gallery, please feel free to take a look and chime in. If possible, I'd prefer if we could keep this thread related to the original transaction, as while this is good news there is still an ongoing UPS claims process and a missing watch, and any help TRF members can offer on the issue would really be appreciated as updates come in. Thanks again for your interest.

Corrado, just did the measurement and the cardboard box, Rolex boxes and papers + the watch and pillow without interior packaging clocks in at 2.38lbs.

Imagine what happened to the seller when he sold the piece at you via paypall and he was not the one taken the watch… That would be a horrible experience for him..

Years ago I was forced to study something called the Uniform Commercial Code. Shortly after the test, all that gobledegook was forgotten. I assume they've updated it to include these sorts of transactions. I'm pretty sure the answer is in there, somewhere.

Regardless, these sorts of unfortunate threads are highly instructive, even if they do contain a whole bunch of pseudo-law propounded by interweb 1s and 0s that don't know tic from toc.
