Here is a lovely little wine that I happened across when buying a mixed case for my Daughter. I don't know that it has much cellaring potential but it is drinking just great right now. Really nice quaffer. Bought a case for myself.

Brought these to the mtns to go with dinner - grilled oysters Rockefeller, pomegranate brisket with cranberry compote, garlic mashed white sweet potatoes, asparagus, and pumpkin pie.

I don't know that one in particular but I do know the soil types and climates on Diamond mountain itself, a terroir that appeals to me a lot. I can only imagine being able to taste that red dirt inside of the glass there. Looking forward to opening some Lokoya from the same area.

Lakoya is great my friend!! We have had it many times!

I DEFINITELY recommend Andrew Geoffrey if you can get ahold of some — definitely a smaller boutique style winery - that makes some GREAT juice!!

Opened a very "not ready" 2014 Mayacamas and a Decoy red wine tonight. Think I'm going to Coravin some Howell Mountain Lokoya as a night cap. I'll look for the Geoffrey, there's a place here locally that carries it occasionally so I found out.

Please don’t touch the Lakoya if it’s anything younger than around 2008...and even then only if you have to. I opened one of my Mayacamas that was a 2005 which was drinking well, wouldn’t have gone much younger.

As far as the big cabs go - I’m finding that 05-10s are really peaking right now - earlier vintages - while still quite good in general — of course depending on vintner and storage — are definitely past their peaks. 11-12 — very approachable — but I don’t go near many 13s or younger (California cabs).

Now - if we go to Bordeaux or Burgundy — completely different story.

Well I did but I'll chalk it up to a learning experience, I wholeheartedly agree with you though. It was an amazing bottle, drank over 48 hours but you can definitely tell it had many years to go before it would have been optimal to open it. I think I was convinced to try it since I had several more coming my way and I had an extensive conversation with one of the assistant winemakers at Lakoya concerning the 2014s. Even though the bottle was pretty "green" after a 5 hour and then a 30 hour decant it was pretty special. This was one of three wines I've had so far in my life that I've said " WOW, I have no words!!!" I know I won't open the others for some time until my 6 year old graduates high school but I'm glad I got the opportunity to taste it at all beforehand. This had been an ongoing education for me and I love the journey so far.

Had two Howell Mountain juggernauts tonight, both being complete opposites of each other but both winners none the less. I chose the Lokoya for its reputation and the Mole Hill because of the history of the winery owner, location of the vineyard and the winemakers expertise (Phillipe Melka). I expected the Lokoya to be great, even 10 years before anticipated maturity and it didn't let me down. The Mole Hill was way better then I had hoped for, although a 2014 it drank with some relative seamless integration making me think it not only had age ability to it as well as some immediate approachability, much like a bottle of Hundred Acre.

Had this over the course of the past two days, very masculine on opening. I decanted half of it overnight and it softened up considerably but it still was quite the experience after 24 hours, just somewhat more refined however. Nothing like drinking a Cab Sauv, this was a mix of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier. Great price point too, headed up to the winery Monday to pick up some more and try some of the older flights.

Jonata is great, owned by Screaming Eagle as well. If you want a bargain, find The Paring...its the second label of Jonata...$25 red blend.

I'm aware of the Paring, the Hilt as well just need to acquire some. They're not really widely available in San Diego and at that price point I have a hard time justifying shipping them in. Whenever I'm in Orange County or Temecula I can pick up a few bottles at Total Wine. I may pick up a couple at the winery Monday, at least whatever they let me buy.
