Awesome, you're already set to go, haha! Great value.

Our 12th anniversary tonight, little restaurant called Hitching Post in Bulleton,Ca. Tomorrow is our big day to go up to Jonata, can't wait and this was a good start too.

Love the cork presentation on your bottle Larry.

Today's trip to Jonata. The back porch area.

The menu:

Half way through:

On to the last for today:

What an experience, I hope one day I can repeat this, hands down very personable and intimate. Great, great wine to do it with as well.

It was well worth the trip, we spent a little over three hours there and it was just the two of us. If you plan on going do reach out to them and make an appointment well in advance, they don't have any formal tastings scheduled or set up in advance.

Love the hitching post, especially if you can belly up to the bar.

Their CVR is one of the best deals out there, IMO. Great QPR. Enjoy!

Had a mixed case shipped out of my remote locker, about half is going into the locker here, the other half into serving temp fridge.

Hitching post was great! (And $26 a bottle for good 10 yo Merlot, I was all over that like white on rice.) It's been about 20 years since I saw Sideways, I didn't make the connection until someone in the restaurant shouted "I don't want any damned Merlot!" Man, I felt so dumb for a few minutes once I realized it.

Tonight's selection plus an interesting story regarding that filet knife. Has to do do with my work and what I encounter while on patrol every now and then. But back to the wine, had the whole bottle of 100 Acre and a sip of the Jonata tonight. Two very different flavor profiles and both being world class in execution of delivering of a great experience. A toast to the thread and lets keep this going.

I always laugh at that, 2 of the worlds greatest wines are Merlot - Masseto and Petrus. Actually every bottle of red wine from Bordeaux contains a significant amount of merlot. It reminds one that the movies are nothing more than the opinions of a director, educated or not.

If Christian Moueix had granted the "Sideways" folks authorization to use Petrus as Miles' unicorn bottle, the irony would've been clear to people who consider themselves wine aficionados. Unfortunately, Moueix didn't respond, and the folks at Cheval Blanc were more than happy to have their name positively associated as the ethereal bottle in Miles' cellar.

But Cheval Blanc is predominantly cab franc in the blend. No one should ever call it a Merlot.

The '61 Petrus wasn't 100% merlot like the bottlings made since 2010, but 90% merlot in the indicative blend is certainly more than enough to consider it a bottle of merlot. Thus the irony of Miles stating he hated merlot, yet his unicorn bottle would've been a bottle of (Old World) merlot if the Petrus folks had consented......

We love Sideways — and often talk about it with friends of ours in Napa when we’re out that way — and how much Merlot sales plummeted — around 42% - or something like that after its release——

Sad.

Bottle Shock is GREAT!!!

A couple other good ones I’d recommend for wine lovers are - A year in Burgundy - and a Year in Port.

Wifey and I attended a wonderful dinner last night with a group of wine aficionado friends. 80 day dry aged Prime grade ribeyes, braised short ribs, perfectly executed sides of potatoes, garlic noodles, sautéed mushrooms, haricot verts and two different salads, with some scrumptious cakes for dessert. Oh yea, and a great lineup of whites, reds, champers and ports!

Here's the complete list of bottles that were poured:

1963 Quinta Do Noval
1976 Jules Regnier Musigny
1982 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases
1986 Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou
1988 JL Chave Hermitage
1996 Louis Jadot Clos Saint-Jacques
1996 Louis Jadot Les Demoiselles Chevalier-Montrachet
1998 F. E. Trimbach Cuveé Frédéric Emile
2000 JL Chave Hermitage
2001 Chateau Suduiraut
2002 Nicolas Potel Les Gaudichots
2006 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
2011 Domaine Roulot Meursault Meix Chavaux
2012 Marcel Juge Cornas
2016 Pierre Gonon Saint-Joseph Les Oliviers
NV Jacques Selosse Initial (April 2013 disgorgement)
