MMM missed earnings, futures are down 100 early this morning

I am watching technicals to see if the S&P stays in the trading range, more earnings today including MCD, PFE and RTX.

https://www.thestreet.com/markets/5-...tuesday-072820

PFE beat, MCD missed. PFE up nicely in the pre-market

MO beat on earnings but missed on revenue, they still raised their dividend which now yields 8.17 at current price

I hold MO, PFE and MMM. I may add to MMM if they have a drop this morning

Would like to add to MCD but even a dip here post-earnings won't be enough for me; it has run-up pretty far. Missed on EPS on strong revenue due to increased COVID-related costs - this is a theme that we'll continue to see throughout earnings, in my opinion.

Haven't made any moves (I guess it is only Tuesday) but if AMZN, FB or GOOGL miss, they would be candidates for me. I would wait to add though, as misses by all 3 could trigger that larger fallout we've discussed across the board.

MCD down 2% P/E still at 35, too high for me to enter

Just added MMM

Will be watching AMZN, whisper number is a beat but I would love for them to crater on missed expectations so I can get back in after closing my positions at 3300

Strong movement in FSLY, SE and LVGO. Shook out some weak hands over the last couple of weeks, but if you're on the fence about these 3 - I wouldn't be; fundamentals haven't changed from Q1 earnings and guidance should remain strong.

Same themes over the last couple months that we've discussed here, but just a reminder that these 3 are for the future. Looking forward to hearing from them next week.

I have a few calls that I will most likely execute vice sell (depending on Wed's earnings) because it's so cheap and want to build up my shares there.

Adding to PFE here based on some new research

https://www.investors.com/news/techn...ock-buy-point/

https://seekingalpha.com/news/359576...-year-guidance

https://www.thestreet.com/streetligh...rnings-vaccine

I was already long PFE but the 4% yield combined with the growth forecast, the balance sheet and the product pipeline is too much to ignore here and allows me to put some cash back to work.

I cannot deal with the current price no matter what the earnings are.

With a P/E of 1651 and numbers like this

https://seekingalpha.com/news/359601...rnings-preview

I just could not buy the stock.

Have to agree with Brian here - it has run up too far, too fast.

It's not that SHOP itself isn't attractive as a company, its just the price itself.

Was Q2 the bottom for companies? Short answer - it depends. I think it definitely depends on the industry that the company operates in.

Looks like some folks want to get out ahead of earnings.

Am a bit anxious about the majors like Amazon and Facebook. Seems some of the tech names are selling off regardless of good or bad numbers, though at least there has been a bit of a correction leading into their releases. Only time will tell, I'm holding for now - hope I'm making the right call.

I'm holding through earnings - and like I've said before, if earnings are bad, I'll just add on weakness. AMD up over 9% after hours post-earnings - decent numbers but also guidance provided (on an EPS miss). It's all about how the companies can spin the story at this point. AMD has run up a lot (like most of tech), yet here they are spiking even more. It could happen with all these tech stocks (look at what happened Q1 with GOOGL after poor numbers).

Quick hits from one of the Big 3 consulting firms. The move in tech (and I'm not talking about stocks) has been astounding.

This is why for all the bubble talk, I still pound heavily on tech stocks - especially ones like FSLY, SE and LVGO that have yet truly hit full stride.

In case anyone forgot - the Fed is still waiting in the wings to prop things up as necessary.

Pretty big hearing today as big tech testifies in front of Congress; looking forward to tomorrow as most of them report earnings after the bell.

SHOP (I don't own it, getting even more expensive) with the big earnings beat, which should bring tailwinds to companies like FSLY (SHOP's a client) and SE.

Futures climbing on the back of good earnings (less loss or beats) from SMG, SBUX, GM, BA

Not really concerned there - let's listen to what Irwin Simon has to say at the actual call. Believe in the company and management long-term, and numbers weren't bad.

I'm holding through, especially if things change with the administration come November.

AMD had monster quarter and future guidance. Continue to ride the wave, +12% today.

I think even at this price they are an attractive buy for long hold as they will only keep continue to chip away (pun intended) at Intel's market dominance for the foreseeable future.

Realistically, we won't see rates above zero for the next few years.

Yet again, the early rotation we saw into cyclicals the last couple of weeks was too quick. Tech continues to rise, and earnings have proven why (AMD, SHOP, etc).

There are some attractive prices out there in industrials, retail, etc...but why go that route? They've generally been around the same price over the last couple of months and any spike up has been taken immediately back down.

Again, until we have a real vaccine, I'm sure this cycle will continue to occur.
