He said the parking was a mess. He tried Uber the first day, took forever. Then he got a parking pass at the park and walk (yes I said WALK, no shuttle). He is a fitness guy and walks over 1 millions steps a year. The "walk" was 1.9 miles each way. On Sunday after the walk the place was a zoo. They hat a hard time even finding water to buy. His wife another fitness nut passed out of heat exhaustion and they rushed her to the hospital. He missed the entire race. |

I refrained from talking about Lewis saying that he will not comply with the jewelry edict in 2 races. I refrained from talking about Lewis telling the pitwall on the team radio that the strategy was not helping him despite the fact that there was nothing the team could have done any different. I could go on an on, but understand there is only so much tolerance for this subject. I will agree 100% with you that Lewis is irrelevant in terms of his chances of another championship but he is still a high profile driver and given that we get the Sky F1 coverage that is UK centric, he is prominent in the "on and off track" visibility. |

What was the police escort to the podium for?
I know there are a lot of Richard Milles around but surely Miami isn’t that dodgy? I’ve pretty much forgotten the race already but the pre- and post-race antics are the big story over here. Endless source of amusement. Hoping for more races in Miami for the entertainment. |

After a dumb pass at the first corner (while trying to win the race at the first corner) MV went on to easily win the race.
Even when the SC tried to even up the gaps MV still easily pulled ahead. Ferrari and Mercedes can only pray that the Miami track was ‘just good for Red Bull’ and that this was not a sign of races to come. Russel came in for tyres while Hamilton stayed out and this gave Russel the edge he needed. Virtual safety car to safety car changed the scenario. Heads would have rolled later in Hamilton’s side of the garage All in all a boring race only made a little bit more interesting by the safety car rules.

The advantage the RB has on the straights is mind boggling. Ferrari has its work cut out to keep the pace and pass the RB. Its amazing how Max is always so happy and chatty when he wins a race, but if he doesn't win he is miserable and whiny, he will not even talk to the race winner. Now he is chummy with Charles because he is winning. A few races ago he could not even look at Charles. Says a lot of Max.
Miami looked interesting, not sure its a race I would attend. Looks to be a whole lot of new race fans who have no idea about the sport. On to the next! |

Let’s not forget we’re watching some VERY young kids grow up in the public eye.
Not saying it’s ok that some act like entitled children, but uh, they are literally children. |

Who eventually had and now do have access to an enormous amount of funding to get where they are. But to be fair, it's not an easy job.
Again, you guys should watch Formula 4 for some great racing. So if you love racing.... But the F1 circus is amusing and entertaining. Poor Martin, he was so out of his element in Miami.

Am referring to FIA Formula 4 (Europe). Watch the recent Italy race as an example. V25V, you'll reeeeeeally appreciate the recent race, the passing, the close calls, the mechanical failure just when you're... near the end of the.... it really was a great race IMHO. It seemed far more 'real', more like, well, drivers racing each other and working the car they had under them..

The Business of F1
We like to have fun and go back and forth about this driver or that driver. But for those beyond a passing interest, there's the business side of F1.
Much has been said about the pre and post race antics in Miami, especially the fans from Europe who felt very uncomfortable with the circus, but what are the details behind it all. I found the following Bloomberg article to be fascinating and a very good read. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/featu...urce=applenews On a related topic, the 13F financial report submitted by Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate and required by the SEC of large institutional investors, lists Liberty Media stock as the 5th largest purchase of Buffet in Q1 2022. I found that interest by one of the worlds foremost investors ever to live to be fascinating. Lastly, F1 recently closed on a land purchase in Las Vegas of nearly 1/4 of a billion dollars. The 39 acre site just east of the Las Vegas Strip will house the pit and paddock complex for the race, but this seems to be a more to the story than just a staging area.... |

^^^ well said. Heck, just the logistics of it all is staggering! And yes, immense financial network to keeps things flowing smoothly.
Vegas land? Hmmm... 38 acres.... hmmmm, interesting!

I thought Dan was shown the door by Roger? - didn’t know if you raced the old series or the new one. And now I see “Road to Indy” for Anderson Productions is still alive. The F3/F4 series I was showing isn’t the USF, nor are any of Dan’s people there. It is FIA based rather than IndyCar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Yes, I know what F3/F4 is and its a disaster. It is now owned by same guy who runs SVRA (Tony who you mentioned above). SCCA Pro had dumped it and for good reason. I recall the first couple of years, they had 2-3 green flag laps/weekend! Complete carnage. I have a son racing karts at a high level now and there is ZERO chance I would ever put him in F4 out of karts. If the money and talent is there, USF is where its at. And now Dan has started USF Juniors for the younger kids, its a great system. |

Yep the first few F3/F4 years were awful - there were races when the notice board was so jammed with actions that adopting WhatsApp was the only solution
It seemed like team bosses were doing zero racecraft training in the F4 series (even the simple “don’t hit what you can see” escaped their driving coaches it seemed). Tony should help that with a hands-on approach. He has brought some sanity to TransAm. Back to F1 - the Spanish event will see Freitas as RD. He will stay in that role for Monaco. Then Wittich back at Azerbaijan due to Le Mans conflicting with that F1 event. I haven’t gained confidence in the shifting RD role because consistency may suffer. Ferrari needs to protect and Barcelona/Monaco in May could see “RedBull rising” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

But I guess I'm not a Max fan, and honestly I always seem to comment on him because there seems to be such blind praise at the expense of every other driver. Max has talent, that can't be denied but he isn't any more special than all the other talented drivers on the grid. F1 would be kind of interesting if the drivers all used the same car, would that reflect who could really really drive? Maybe or perhaps it would be boring for lack of participation at large from sponsors. |

F1 is entrenched and well-connected, the money train is far too large and advertising deals far too lucrative to stop it now. As drivers say, they want to put on "a good show". Sports entertainment, and to be fair this year's circus has been very entertaining. So if you want to watch talented drivers open-wheel racing at its competitive finest, look at FIA's F4 in Europe (imho) or in the USA there's USF2000. i feel you'll be pleasantly surprised at the racing in those organizations versus F1.

I feel horrible to have not mentioned Indycar. My bad, guess I should peek in and watch a few of their street course races (am not an oval guy, except at small local tracks where it's more about having fun and supporting the local community). Heck, at the small local I've given a hand changing car bits when a 'team' needed extra help / someone to turn wrenches.
--- --- It's also what I loved about SCCA nightlife at the track. Ok, it's not F1 glitz and glamour, yet back then you never knew who'd be hanging out at night at the track, or at LRP when PLN would ask to pull up a chair and hang out with us. It's kinda the 'other side' with what some refer to as 'gentlemen racing'. As we all know, F1 is what it is and revenue (?and race count?) has never been higher. So by commercial standards F1 is doing the best they ever have. Bravo! An honest and sincere congrats to them. Their entertainment events brings in local revenue too, while helping showcase global locations to help promote tourism, etc... and F1 sponsors and their agenda. But it's not the best competitive racing if based strictly on driver talent. Yes the drivers may be considered the most talented, but the racing is highly dependent on the team's car. That's where spec racing comes into the forefront in pitting drivers against one another. Am sure I 'lost the plot' in this post, but F1 has evolved to what it is today. Love the more races, more circus, more funner. Buy the shirts, wear the watches, and subscribe to the app.

While not F1, congrats to AMG Mercedes for locking out all three podium positions at the Bathurst 12 Hour race! An outstanding team and brand accomplishment.

The Official Formula One Thread!
Quote:
As long as we are on a by-week, kudo’s the Merc F-E works powered Venturi ROK-iT of Mortara’s win in Berlin Race1 yesterday. Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, UK makes the powertrain, cooling system, rear frame, rear suspension, dampers, software, onboard electronics, and wires for Formula E teams. Today, a twist…the course will be run opposite direction. Overnight, work was carried out to switch from the traditional, anti-clockwise version of the track. Clockwise means drivers go out for Qually on a whole new circuit to on Sunday morning (Berlin time, that is). I still can’t stand the whining powertrain though. The 2023 Gen 3 chassis next year will make the cars much faster though. The Gen2 car had the Eq of a 335-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle only. Gen3 ups that to 469 horsepower. That predicts a top speed over 200 mph vs. 2022 car's 174 mph top speed. Getting closer to F1 performance (but not same way). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
