Here is a shot from Union Glacier, Antarctica-in the guides tent. Wearing a GMT which went to the pole; and the Seadweller which I thought I would compare against the GMT. The GMT was the better watch on expedition, as it told the time back at base without having yo think about it.

No. As the watch is being worn on the left wrist. The reflection into the dome makes it look the other way.

This shot shows it, if you look at the arm of the person tasking the photo..

Steve, thanks. I've enjoyed this thread. It has been different and entertaining. But if anyone needs to go back to the status quo let me know and I'll start a "Does your Rolex match your yard fertilizer" thread.

And here is the Deep Sea.
It is not a great expedition watch, as it's too big. The original Seadweller is better. Yet, this was the first of the new watches.
It was the first watch with the jceramic dial, maxi markers, new bracelet and clasp.
It's like a Formula 1 car; all the current expedition watches and even the sport watches have their DNA from this watch. Technically it's brilliant.
So it takes its place in the expedition watch collection. As it is probably, rightly or wrongly Rolexs 'flagship' watch.

Glad you decided to stick it out. This has turned out to be one of the best threads ever imo! Can't wait to see the last two.

Talk about a side by side comparison...... I like this "playing" with the watches versus admiring them. As I said, the SD is my favorite Rolex, but I would have guessed that the GMT or EXP II would have been the superior Antarctic expedition watch. As that's for what they are truly designed. Unless, of course, you're aboard the Calypso.....

I also met Wally Herbet once at the a Royal Geographical Society, we chatted for a while about his trips. And I have met Roger Mear who led the Footsteps of Scott expedition. Also the advert for a winter trip featured Chris Furse, I interviewed him for my dissertation for my degree; which was on polar exploration.
They don't let Sir Ranulph play with explosives anymore, do they? After "Dr. Doolittle" and all.... Before my time but "your" liaison tour guys love to tell the story.

That's some line up. And to think I was proud just to have a book signed by Sir Edmund Hillary.

I really enjoyed your pictures. Seems like you lead an interesting life. I hope you don't give up in this forum, there are a lot of great people here. This has turned out better than I was expecting. Wish I could travel more than I do.

As others have said, this thread sure has taken a different turn and I'm the first to admit I could be wrong.

I'm sorry I doubted you and please accept my apologies.

Drama, intrigue, tension, humour, adventure and watches. What a thread!

I also wasn't sure what to make of this thread when it began, but now I know it's one of the best.

Please keep the posts coming Steve.

The explorer 2 is the best; as the bezels on gmt and dive watches can freeze up sometimes.

No they don't! But ran loves a good story! He's made his career out of stories about his expeditions. He is a very down to earth and true person.

Here is one place I have not worn the dive watches..
Caving in the Mendips. UK.
To many opportunities to bash the hell out of a steel watch.
