Thanks for toddling by! That time change threw everyone for a loop at our house. Getting the girls up for school was pure joy.

Anyway, sweet dreams, David.

Are these really expensive shoes, Oscar? That certainly has to be factored in.

I used to have a neighbour who lived for the Shopping Channel. She had a pair of shoes like that which she wore to take out the trash on Friday mornings. She wore them with her silk leopard robe. That's all I can think about thwne I look at that shoe picture.

Wow! So you've had a busy morning, I bet. What time is his surgery? Will he stay a night or two?

We had to be here at 5 am (yawn)! The OR nurse should be calling me any moment to let me know they've started. If all goes as planned, he'll be home Thursday.

I asked the Nurse Anes. if they had meds available for spouses. He said that he gets many requests!

I'd think you were certainly entitled to meds. Of course, there's the liquor store on the way home....

At least I am in a brand new waiting room - 3 weeks old. I can surf the web, and watch CNN on the large screen TV at the same time.

That's good!

Why does your husband need disk replacement? Is he getting a silicone one?

Don't know nothing about blowing no disk. Now a gasket on the other hand. Hope all goes well and keep us updated.

He's had back pain since he's been in his 20's. He herniated a disk (L4-L5 I think) about 6 years ago, and the non surgical options stopped working. The disk is titanium, I believe.

It's actually part of a clinical research trial, and his doctor does 4 of these surgeries a week. Chris had a friend who had the same procedure a while back, and it was very successful. The other option is spinal fusion, which is not really recommended for a healthy 40 yr old.

One great thing is that, because or dumb insurance does not cover this procedure - the study picks up the entire tab -- every last thing.

Whoa. That's great that he fit the study criteria. I've known a few people with chronic back pain who have had the disk fusion, and it always seemed to help only a little, but then they had to have more surgery later and it was kind of dimishing returns on the success vs. quality of life.

That's exactly the prognosis they gave us re: fusion. They said eventually, it would cause problems with the healthy disks, and there would be a decrease in mobility.

They've been doing this surgery for about 4 years, and it wasn't even available when he first herniated the disk. We are really lucky that he has access to this technology.
