It drank phenomenally - I was pleasantly surprised. Still so much life and complexity in it - but drank like a VERY mature Bordeaux. I would not hesitate opening another. I’m going to open a cpl other 06 Bordeaux and see if they’re similar. ![]() Cheers! ![]() |

May the “pox” NOT be with you when you have that Raveneau MDT!!!
Although even if it seems premoxed out of the gate, sometimes setting it aside for a few hours can result in a notable shift to drinkability. Brought a 2000 Foret and 2000 Monts Mains to a big offline gathering a few weeks ago. Everyone agreed the Foret was exquisite. Everyone also agreed the MM was likely premoxed. Then a few hours later towards the end of dinner, some folks dragged me back to the bubblies/whites table, and said to try the MM again. Amazingly, it was drinkable. Definitely not a prime example of aged white burg, but drinkable regardless.

Coche has typically been the sturdiest IMO. Am told by a good friend who’s been drinking burgs from essentially the womb that Rav had noticeable problems in 2003. But as is often said.......there’s no such thing as good wines, only good bottles!

Tonight an 'old friend' - Yalumba "The Scribbler" Cabernet-Shiraz from the Barossa.
At 12 years old, now a brick-red with a matured soft palate that still delivers the vivacity of the younger wine but more as a subtle backdrop than a first-impression. Took about 4 hours to open fully. A lovely aged wine that is drinking at it's best. Fortunately I have a few more of these. ![]()

Well hello there ! How did I miss this thread !
I do probably love wine more than watches. I work for an Italian Importer and I do sell wine for a living ! I do drink mostly French and Italian. Mostly Southern Rhone, Languedoc and Provence Red. This is where the best value for your $ is in France. For Italian wine, because there is the most diverse grape varietals in the world. I drink basically everything,. Here my last two bottles ! Chionetti produce arguably one of the best Dolcetto in Italy. It can age very well. The Aglianico on the right comes from a Taurasi producer which has only prephylloxera ultra centennial vines. Salut ! P. |

For those of you CA folks who like your wine and your animals, check out the fundraiser for Jameson Animal Ranch in Napa. There's an event/auction this weekend which is sold out, but you can register a proxy bid (by EOD tomorrow/weds). Some pretty fancy wine items in their live auction:
https://www.jamesonanimalrescueranch...-wineapawlooza (winemaker dinner with Thomas Rivers Brown, a lot of 30 magnums of beckstoffer wines, etc.) Disclaimer: I have no association with the event or the rescue, just found out about it today and was impressed by the auction catalog! |

Actually no. It wasn't even second.
The winner by a clear mile was the Roses de Jeanne Val Vilaine. Its the bottle with the grey label next to the 2008 Veuve. Its a non dosage champagne so like a Brut Nature and I think all of their champagnes are made that way. Sugar hides flaws (even in extra Brut) but Roses de Jeanne never adds any as they don't need to. The Val Vilaine is a reasonably priced bottle (about $80-$90 approx.) and is just lovely. You can go much more expensive with them but this is great as it is. Second was the 2002 Veuve (first bottle on the left of the pic). Third was the Pol Roger (always a crowd pleaser). Then the Dom. |

I go to the champagne region now and again. I love trying the the small producers and the cooperatives, having lunch with them over several tastings of their cuvees. So much elegance and passion - you will never find that in most volume producers. The value is incredible. |
