See, that's the point. During races they go on and on and on about things. Most of it seems to be time filler. Look, I get it, that's their 'job', which frankly has not evolved in decades.

Kimi would remedy this problem! Giving needed info/facts when necessary. Some of us might actually want to hear the cars a bit more too, not that they sound any good compared to decades ago, but that can be solved by the FIA.

Maybe F1 should leave the intl commendation as is nowadays, yet for F1 app/etc we get an audio commentary channel as well (we do get this today, buuut it's the same thing with different talking heads). So instead, let Kimi and ??? do the F1 app audio. Heck, make it a third audio option for app users.

So.... The general public hears the typical stuff, yet those of us who pay extra to watch F1, we get commentary, as needed, from Kimi.

Put it to a vote F1

Added: Current commentators are great, and perfect for intl audiences. Exactly what one expects year after year after year after year. Could use an English-speaking Asian commentator tho. But anywho, how about trying something different for those who already know about tire pressures, rain setups, etc.?

Kimi for the win.

It's well documented from Luca De Montezemolo and senior McLaren personnel that Kimi was not exactly one to put in the work towards his craft and could have been one of the all time great if he did put in the time. Immense natural talent for sure, perhaps more than anyone ever on the grid, but not a hard worker.

Of course his binge partying days are legendary and all self disclosed by Kimi himself.

But see, that's a big plus! This isn't 'professional' ice skating or gymnastics Paul. F1 is different. Kimi will get along great with the crowd and give us a look into the major F1 backdrop of yacht girls, partying, and all-out funfests few ever see / experience. There's lots of event stories and videos Kimi could bring forth

Come to think of it, wasn't Eddie Irvine quite the party animal?

Is it 'legal' for Kimi or someone to stream on YouTube commentary on an F1 race live (no F1 video or sound from the race itself of course, just alternative commentary).

BTW was it Kimi who was driving for a team, yet went into Ferrari's pit to have an expresso because it was better?

I’m not judging on his work ethic, just adding commentary to what Luca and McLaren top brass said about him. He was definitely a James Hunt kind of throwback. His aloof demeanor is what endeared him to the fans and honestly was in his favor by never being rattled by the F1 circus media because he just didn’t give a _____.

Thank you, seriously, for being a good sport Paul. One thing I think we could both agree on, Kimi would be entertaining.

Max being a little cheeky with a retort to Toto’s comments last week after Max broke the record with 10 wins on the bounce combined with Felipe Mazda’s legal actions:

While discussing Lewis Hamilton’s impressive championship record, Verstappen referred to him as a 6-time world champion. When a journalist corrected him, pointing out, “It is seven. It’s in the history books. You can look it up.” Verstappen smirked with a retort, “I mean, I’m not very sure. I don’t read Wikipedia.” Verstappen’s dig at Hamilton’s championship tally didn’t just raise eyebrows; it added another layer of intrigue as it highlighted the audacity and intensity of his retort.

Let me recall Alonso - with whom I can complety agree:

"If I had the opportunity to live my exact life once more, maybe I don't change anything on my teams or my choices, or this Ferrari maybe title or whatever, I will just change to live a little bit more all those moments and try to have more memories from those moments"

And let also me recall Lauda about Hunt:

"He is the only man whose life I really envied. Even towards the end when I saw him in scruffy trainers you knew there was a man who lived life to the full."

So are you sure, that Kimi is wrong?

I don't think so.

Haha this was funny and spontaneous. Who remembers?

The video is missing the funniest part though... when Hakkinen comes back with the empty water can.

The Official Formula One Thread!

So top tip: new track, new track record guaranteed.

It will be faster because it is shorter. VER has never won this round of the season. Quali will be key.

Here’s the new layout - I added the green arrow only to outline the new segment. Also for comparo, the 2022 layout is provided.

The funny thing is, F1 commentators said the same thing about a lizard on track.

That lizard was removed, it didn't pay $1500 to see the race.

Wife and I watching Qual... On her own, out of the blue, she suggested a stream without commentators, or very minimal. Who at F1 can we contact to add another stream to the app?

The Official Formula One Thread!

TLDR: skip to last paragraph…

Since we’re in the US, it’s complicated.
Liberty Media sold the US rights to Disney/ESPN. ESPN chose not to have their own Director nor team in commentary for live broadcasts. Instead, they contract with Sky Sports.

Sky Sports has 25+ discrete streams, most without commentary. But their streams are blocked on US even if you paid for the season pass on their App. But a wise owl might use a VPN and try to get it working as if you were in UK. Cost is about $80/season. There is also an F1 App that offers options. But that is a hoop not worth the leap.

So the short answer would be asking ESPN to do a commentary-less stream online (like ESPN3).

Failing that, there is a mute button.
I often use it

This day was shocking. I don't know what happened to RBR; but maybe the new directive knocked them out.

The good part is, that I think, there will be interesting races till the year end if this saga continues, as in this case both the championships became open, of course except the 1st positions.

But the bad part is, that I felt really bad to see such a disastrous race from RBR. It was pure suffering! And although I've said that I would like to see more interesting races, that's not exactly what I had in mind. So now the whole thing looks as if till now the RBR succes was not far away from a cheating... and it's not a good news neither for RBR nor for this sport.

Anyhow, Lawson seems very talented, despite he is an almost invisible pilot. To make the P10 with that car and with so few races! I think, he is really good which is more or less a surprise, as he was not among the celebrated rookies. Also it seems, that Sainz takes the lead over Leclerc, which is a surprise for me based on the past seasons, when LEC was far better then SAI.

Well, in short: at least we will have a great race tomorrow!

Yes, very interesting grid tomorrow.
Pity that RBR failed on this circuit because overtaking is so difficult and I doubt we will see MV go flat out.

Sainz has a good chance to make the season for Ferrari.

The Official Formula One Thread!

VER got 2 Reprimands for 2 impeding incidents: one at Pit Exit and the other with TSU. The alleged impeding of SAR was dismissed - no grid spots lost due to the 2 penalties.
RBR has become FER @ SG methinks.

The equalizer may appear (see below) but hard to know if it will change outcome.
A wet track? Or pouring rain?
Seems there may be a break at race time.

Happy to see RBR flailing. I’m excited for Vegas we’re going to be right by the sphere.

Not happy with the new rookie beating Yuki. Hopefully my Yuki hat will still be wearable by Vegas.

I could do without Crofty and Danica, but Brundle was spot on with his onboard commentary of Max in Q2 pointing out that the car had no front end and was late to gas after every slow corner.

Cheating is a rather dramatic conclusion. Max has never won a race here and all out aero is not as important on this slow track as it is at other circuits. Red Bull missed on the set up and is lacking mechanical grip. I saw both under steer as well as oversteer on the same corners. If there's rain and/or SC there will be a mix up in the grid, but the Mercs are in the catbird seat with the extra set of Mediums in hand.

I meant that it could "look like it" even if it wasn't. If we look at the previous dominance, and this would be accompanied by the 8-12. position until the end of the season, then I don't think there will be anyone who doesn't think that VER and RBR actually didn't deserve their championship titles.

Exactly, right after the changes in the directive. That's why I don't think it's simply a one time problem. Both pilots drove like lame ducks, which we didn't saw from RBR in the past years. To be honest, I could easily understand if they were not in the P1-P2 or even in P4/P5, but only the worst teams owns the ability to NOT to qualify to Q3 at all. After RBR won all the races in this year, this is more then shocking, it's close to the "impossible".

GENIUS RACE BY CARLOS DRIVING NOT ONLY HIS CAR BUT NORRIS' AS WELL TO FEND OFF THE CHARGING MERCEDES DUO!! WHAT A RACE!!!!

THE CHURCH BELLS RING ONCE AGAIN IN MARANELLO.

PS: I fully expect the Red Bulls to be in form at Suzuka in a week, but for the moment, it's nice to see the streak over and Ferrari on the top step once again!!

The Official Formula One Thread!

I agree about SAI’s foresight. The pitwall guys were calling out NOR’s gap as SAI requested when it was +1.1.

Brundle misunderstood the call and wondered if SAI “knows who he is racing now”. “He just has to go as fast as he can now.” - Which, of course, would’ve put RUS on SAI’s tail with 3 laps to go.

Then SAI he let it close to DRS, the engineer sounded alarmed as he called that out.

Then SAI gave the best line since “I know what I’m doing”…….”Yeah, It’s on purpose.” Sublime
