The Official Formula One Thread!
I worked a different race weekend and just saw the race.
I would have watched 10 races that were predestined as RBR wins and be satisfied just to see the battle during those last few laps today for P3 - and say it was worth the wait. Happy for ALO Sadly, hated to see another loss of security controls. This is just not acceptable… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

YEAH! FLYONSO!
Well, it was a real race, I really enjoyed it! It was good to see Norris too, as he got close to Verstappen, he almost got him. That scene was just like that: And based on the film, I think it was a great trick by Verstappen. He let Norris get close to him for a few laps, ruining the tires of Norris, who because of this later on was not fast enough to get too close. That was really nice, this is how a Dom Verstapetto drives these days |

NOR is a future champion, for sure. He has really shined bright this season. It was also nice to hear VER acknowledge his friend (NOR) during his post-race stand-up. ALO vs PER at the end was amazing. The old man still has got what it takes!
Also, when's the last time that a race has started & hasn't almost immediately gone to a yellow flag?! It seems there's a crash within the first <5 laps at almost every race. What a tragedy regarding LEC, too, lol "why am I so unlucky?!?!" ALB/MAG/HUL/RIC incident at the beginning was sad, too. They're all bigtime underdogs & I am genuinely disappointed when they fail to perform, let alone make it through the first lap.

Ouch, VER seems unimpressed with Vegas.

Historically, every F1 race held in Vegas has been a total dud. FWIW, I think Monaco is boring, but at least it has some historical/cultural significance. IMO, Vegas is a dump & I think they're forcing a track in a place where a track shouldn't be. If they wanted to add another American F1 track to the calendar, Sonoma, Laguna Seca, Road America or Watkins Glen would be better.

Lost a lot of my enthusiasm to F1 having followed it since the mid 70's onward. Now it's more of checking up on the latest vids/shorts/clips or 'highlights' of the last race.. just to keep in touch....It is what it is...!

The Official Formula One Thread!
The Haas Formula One team filed a 'right of review' request related to Austin - it concerns track limit infringements at T6.
There will be 4 teams in a hearing (via conference call) on the 16th. Of course, Haas + RBR, AM, and Williams. Here is the Decision that Haas wants reviewed: But that document was a knock-on after this decision: ALB was the one who was referred to the Stewards many times, however, Haas probably wants a heftier penalty. But first, they must show to the Stewards that there is a “significant and relevant new element which was unavailable to the party seeking the Review (Haas) at the time of the Decision”. Should they be successful in that regard, then a fresh look may yield consequences. Smells like “flop sweat”? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Imho Paul it seems more due to what many feel is a cash grab for F1 Sports Entertainment (thanks to Liberty Mafdia). If Las Vegas workers smartly strike during the event, it will make things a bit more interesting. Corner workers striking would greatly get their point across. One thing is for sure, it may become an event to remember for years to come, though perhaps not for what Liberty Mafdia's F1 Sports Entertainment syndicate desires.
Tyres will not be all that happy with 40F tarmac temps. Like a rain race, sans rain. To be safe for both drivers, officials, and the audience, perhaps F1 team drivers should just do 'parade laps' for the entire event. PS: Has F1 tested the tyres at those low temps? What safety guarantees does the tyre manufacturer make for 40F temps? What liabilities will F1 shoulder if the low temps cause a human tragedy?

Rain and 40F temps... i've tracked Mich Pilot Sport (2006 version) in those conditions. Can only imagine (in my nightmares) what F1 tyres will be like in those conditions, especially if it does indeed rain. What testing has the tyre manufacturer done for those conditions, and what guarantees are they offering for safety's sake?
Truly do wish good luck to the drivers. Parade laps might be the best option for the safety of all involved. Or they could do everything for the event... right up until the starting grid lights, yet pull into the pits and get out of their cars in unison. That would be a welcomed message to F1 (and still adhere to the rule book i believe).

Besides what has already been said above, why the super late start times for qualifying and the race? If the reasoning for an unprecedented third race in the Us was to quench the thirst of a new market supercharged by a Drive to Survive Johnny come lately audience, is a qualifying that starts a midnight local time and 3 am eastern time logical?

I've driven the LV track on XBOX quite a few times and the straightaways are full force top speed and long too. The main straight I cap out on max speed and idle there for awhile well before the braking zone comes. Its going to be very interesting in that DRS zone on these tire's with the weather conditions for sure. The tires should be able to heat up quick bc of these straights, but its not looking good. Add all the other drama and bs going on and this will make Miami opening day look like a brilliant time.
Just fyi Im not an experienced driver sounding like I can drive the tracks like the pros lol |

Paul, would you say F1 is putting unnecessary risk on drivers, teams, corner workers, and spectators by running the race at night (lower visibility) and at colder temps the tires have not been thoroughly tested at (at those speeds for long periods of time down a very fast straight and corners)... just for viewership ratings?
Have a feeling F1 may be opening themselves up to litigation for not operating the race during the day, in temps that have been tyre tested... plus added daylight visibility if/when something occurs.

Not necessarily because of temperature - other GPs have started under cold conditions in the past. E.G., 1978 Canadian GP*. Of course, it was daytime and warmed somewhat. Over the course of the LV race, the temperature should remain fairly steady unless it rains.
Rain would be awful. But that isn’t a circuit design issue. LV shares same issues - no meaningful runoff room. And speeds would be significantly slower. Safety will be watched during the 3 FP’s. As drivers gauge the circuit and test limits, I see multiple red flags in the FPs. If it stays dry, tires will matter most. Pirelli is bringing its three softest tire compounds C3, C4, C5. If there’s any mitigating steps required, F1 could permit extra allocations of C5’s. Qually is a crap shoot methinks. Drivers could spend a too much time warming tires before push laps. The SIMs show this will be a fast circuit for a street layout. With nobody having real experience on this circuit, staying out of the way could be a safety concern. Again, not unlike first time at Saudi or Miami. So, in sum, not more dangerous methinks - but the schedule appears a bit crazy. No support series so all the rubbering-in will be F1 Pirelli stuff (that’s a minor advantage) * The coldest temperature I found was 41°F, CanadianGP in Montreal on October 8, 1978. thx Paul, and i woke up grumpy so was prob harsher than.... Am 100% confident the FIA will look at the track conditions and decide accordingly. Guess it just seems to me running the race during the day makes far more common sense on various levels.

Adjourned until tomorrow. Expect an answer then to part 1 of the RoR. It should be noted that the Hearing today was held for the first part. That is, to hear evidence as to whether there is a “significant and relevant new element which was unavailable to the party seeking the Review at the time of the Decision concerned.” Tomorrow, if the Stewards determine such an element exists, the second part of the Hearing will be convened at a future time or they may take a break and continue if all the parties are ready to present their cases. Haas may be right. But what they are doing is clearly wrong.
I think a lot of people will hate them for this type of points "race". IMHO they should build more professional cars and not be professionals in litigation. |

Decision on Hass petition for review is very lengthy so won’t paste it.
Stewards rejected the petition - so no further action unless Haas goes for an Appeal (which I very much doubt). But you can read the decision in articles that are bound to hit the web soon. I do think paragraph 30 does deserve sharing here. The track limits issues this year need some attention and the Stewards did address it. The sentences are very long and technical but you’ll get the drift: “Something’s got to change!” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

For those interested, here's a cool vid showing paving the final surface for F1's Las Vegas 2023 race. New CATs, thermal imagining, gps... all the latest paving tech.

Oh, ummm, you think the curbs will be the only distractions? How about all the people at T15 handing out cards for 'Vegas Ladies'?
