I’m not a race snob or anything but I follow F1 and watch a lot of their content throughout the year.

The grouchy haters like Max are kind of bleh. Stupid events like this ultimately mean more money for the sport and more money for Max.

If you view how much goes into making an event like this so 20 guys can drive around in circles; it’s incredible, amazing, and just plain obnoxious.
All very fair and valid points. I suppose as well with it never being huge in the US historically, I suppose maybe the sentiment is be loud and obnoxious and over the top to get the attention over everything else here. I suppose everything must change over time. The only constant is change and all.

I’m on ESPN+ and stream YT TV so that may be the issue. YT TV doesn’t carry ESPN3 in my market - but I will try revalidating my carrier.

And you two are NOT off topic - those Santoses or Santi (is either right? -) are going to be the best thing anyone takes out of the event! Well, unless someone takes ZHO on the sports book and that happens…

Memories and a memento.

I am still thinking about putting money on Sergio. We doubled up at the tables today so I might throw some of that his way. The price on Max is slightly better today, maybe tomorrow it will be even better.

I am saving some funds for football on Sunday.

Loving the Santos. For a long time I thought I wanted a Tank, but last time we were in Vegas (different spot) I tried them and came out thinking maybe I’d like the Santos better.

Yeah I bought ESPN+ earlier this month for boxing since a guy I know was fighting on the Top Rank card. Was excited to see I could stream F1 on it but the phone app is unintuitive compared to the Apple TV app.

Good to hear that at least the show was great if this qualifying session was so boring. :)

The amount of spectator videos in the last 24hrs showing how they are forced to leave and getting kicked out after the drain hold cover incident is appalling. People paid big money and are booted off the premises only to hear that the session restarted a few hours later. What a $hit show

What could they have expected after Las Vegas? It’s a shi*hole, a disgusting place.

I watch via F1TV, and it desperately needs Kimi as a commentator.

A Class Action lawsuit is in progress about FP1. Why did they force everyone to leave when F1 could have sold more overpriced branded tchotchkies. Basic Vegas 101, keep them in your gambling area for as long as possible,

It was great to watch the race live in Oz, in the afternoon, with a nice cold beer.

Las Vegas looks impressive at night in 4K.

I somewhat disagree.

Yes, the sporadic helicopter shots make it look fab with all the lights.

But the core race looks awful. Just 100% Armco and safety barriers. A bit Formula E - could be anywhere.

Give me Spa any day!

Well, for me this race was very interesting and surprisingly good. I think the organizers will learn from this year's mistakes and next year will be much better. For example, something needs to be done with the lights, because with such a brightly lit and caged track, you can't see the "Las Vegas look" at all, it's impossible to enjoy the city. Not to mention that nothing in the world was visible from the Strip.

In any case, although the first place in the individual championship was decided, the rest became open and interesting, so the last race will surely be very exciting. Let's see, for example, the race for the 2nd and 4th place in the Team championship has become completely open, and also the 4th-7th place on the Drivers championship.

And a little side note about Perez. I think a lot of people felt Perez chickened out with Leclerc twice. However, I do not agree with this. It was a safety play for Perez, who wanted to finish the race AT ALL COSTS, to issure, and not risk his 2nd place in the Drivers championship. Because once it became clear that Max would win the race, there was no longer any need for him to make a mistake while fighting for the 2nd position. For Perez, therefore, the 3rd place was the victory itself this time. He was smart, and not a hero. By the way, in this case it is worth mentioning MAX, who IMMEDIATELY acted as a teammate, helping Perez as much as he could.

Well yes, that's Vegas. Everyone in, but the Max(imum bet) wins :)

It is. But that's a given nowadays as the real profits and PR seem to be elsewhere built 'around' the racing.

Overall, the LV event truly showcases society and 'F1'. Hopefully next year the airport can handle all the private planes instead of sending them off to Arizona to park. The locals, including homeless and hard workers, were treated as expected, as were attendees. Glad the teams and VIPs enjoyed their show and the broadcast was watched by millions. There's more, yet this F1 event showcased how things 'work' today.

Well done, lessons learned

PS: My wife says VER is the new Vettel by forcing cars around him to....

I very much enjoyed the race. The track layout proved to be conducive to good racing and certainly better than some of the Tilke designed tracks. The city looked good at night and the Sphere was beautiful. I could do without the artificial screaming of driver introductions and Rolls Royce Uber rides to the interview stand followed by a water fountain show at the Bellagio followed by another Rolls Royce uber side to the podium. Too over the top Vegas for me.

Agree - this circuit design by Tilke did not disappoint. There was more passing that the TV Director could keep up with.

The idea of opening the strip each day is interesting but it seemed a dusty circuit and played havoc on scheduling.

Wish they could do something about the post race - a meh limo ride, flacid interviews, and then the ride back to an underwhelming podium ceremony.

As an opener, 7.5 out of 10, but we have at least 9 more years of this GP.

The actual race was a great race to watch after a rough start of the weekend. I did miss the cooldown room chats which i like better than the Rolls drive and the interviews right after the race. I also dislike that it is less about the racing and more about the event. But Max won again and that’s all that matters. :)

Watching the race from the 90 degree leading into the Sphere section it was awesome. I may be back next year but certainly will try and plan the logistics better and they need to reduce the price by a lot.

Interested to see how much gets taken off my room bill from all the gambling.

Surprisingly good race for a first attempt.

And Vegas did F1 in the only way Vegas knows how.

All in all I would say success.

This is the correct way to experience Las Vegas IMO from the other side of the planet away from the seizure lights, second-hand smoke & meth.

I agree. Most of the screen is blue, green & white barriers whizzing past. Watkins Glen, Limerock Park, Sears Point/Sonoma, Indy road course, Road America, Road Atlanta... all solid options. I don't know if they'd be able to handle the F1 circus, though. Would lead to much better racing IMO.

Of all of the attempts to hold a GP in Las Vegas, this was the best, I'd say. Street circuits are just so friggin' boring!

None of those circuits have a grade 1 approval rating - only if the organizer made new modifications would FIA give them one. Indy would have the least work to do - but Penske has zero interest in the circus.

I understand about the optics of street circuits in general. It’s interesting how many new GP events have been added using a street circuit.

I thought the racing was good.
Verstappen's 5 second penalty for his first corner push out on Leclerc was soft by the stewards.
Leclerc did well to come second in the race.
Red Bull still very dominant which is sad..for those who like to some some competitive racing.
There was not a lot of atmosphere generated by supporters, it seemed like the race was being held in dead silence. I think I would like it more if it was a daytime race or even late afternoon.
