Each to his own , I wouldn't do it . But why don't you if you think its something that would make you happy . Just make sure that you have a good watchmaker in case you have a problem as you couldn't send it to RSC . Show us the pictures when it done , I do believe on a nato it would look better . Again just my opinion

If you can't live without it, go for it. While the looks are great, in my book it is not very durable. I had a Breitling Blacksteel with the DLC coating - which is even more durable. I banged it against something, and the coating chipped of on the sharp edge of the bezel. You can't get this coating polished or anything, once it is damaged. You have to be even more careful that with just the plain stainless.
Personally, I would not mess with a Rolex and just leave it as is. I agree it's a great look, but as with everything, there is a price to pay not just in $$$$. Besides, what was at one time an unusual look, is now becoming pretty common anyway. Up to you, but if I wanted to change the look of my watch, I would spend the money on any one of a number of great looking aftermarket leather straps you can get. Merry Christmas, Carl

If and when I want the colour BLACK, I'll have it just on my BEZEL and DIAL, thank you very much.
The rest remains as 904L steel........the way Rolex and God intended!!

I don't think I would do it to a Rolex personally, hard to undo if you change your mind later. There are plenty of nice "black watches" already out there. I just picked up a Breitling Super Avenger Black Steel and love it.

Your're right. I wouldn't pimp a watch, but I would love to get my hands on a Prohunter. Correction-I want to own one! They're so limited though.

The pvd coating is one micron thick but supposedly incredible resilient. For me it's a look thing. And If I had as many watches as you guys have, I'd probably give it a shot.

The problem with any coating is that it will scratch or wear off over time with use. You than have to refinish the watch, or wear it looking like crap. It's a big NO! for me.

I would not do it, i am not a fan of the look but that of course is subjective. If you ever want to sell it be prepared for a challenge. Good luck Ed

I think this subject has been broached over and over and I think in summary - the watch is not for everyone. If you have extra cash lying around, have a few other rolex watches already and just want something different, then why not?
If you are a purist, then stay pure. Coming up with explanations like if it gets scratched it will look like crap or, it makes you want to vomit blah blah, to me, it sounds more like sour grapes and is not convincing. Yeah you wouldn't buy one, but if you were given one, you wouldn't take it? Personally, I think the watch is great. If you can afford it, go for it. |

I wonder if it wears off. Remember the black TAG's in the 80's? The black would start to wear off at the edges soon after purchase.

Looks great, but the durability of the coating (I don't know anything about it)scares me.

It's a very cool mod for an occasional wear piece. An everyday bang-around one? No.
