Thanks for pointing out the elephant in the room. I see them all the time, some are legit and I have misread them, but many are just as you described. "What's my watch worth?" "Look what I found!" Etc, etc. I sometimes I am a bit passive aggressive in my comments to them like, I know, I'm a bit caustic, like...... "Welcome to the forum." Since they don't even bother to introduce themselves. Then they are gone like the wind. I remember once fellow with a Red SD who I haven't seen back, I think he is a musician or something, I'm sure that baby was sold in a midnight deal. Anyway, rant over. Thanks Larry!

Good Work Larry!
I hadn't realised this was going on but I think it was well caught and being the friend of a recently defrauded person (rolex related but not TRF) I cannot stress more to buy the seller not the watch. |

Great Job Larry ...
Thinking along the same lines, I am seeing a lot of sellers with extremely low posts, selling their high priced items very quickly ....a little too quickly for comfort....yet there are other sellers with posts in the hundreds whose items stay on the sales forum for days, for the same price....In the former case, there is usually no mention of who the buyer is. Seems like they are building their FAKE selling reputation ... could be legit sales too but it is a great way to make a fake reputation ....so they build their reputation until a real TRF member sends them $$ and that's it ... they take the money and split .... We need someway to prove that the buyer is legit and not just some fake account of the seller .... thnx |

I hate this sort of thing. See it on forums all the time and it bugs me. They don't want to join in discussion but just demand to know things about their watch that will benefit them. And they want to know it NOW and often get narky if they don't find out what they want quick enough.

Larry,
Here is another idea ... Is some reputable member willing to act as an escrow??? Many times a good deal comes but the seller is either too far or has too little of a feedback for the buyer to be comfortable in going through the deal. With the escrow, the seller sends the watch to the escrow member and the buyer sends $$ to the escrow member .... the escrow member checks out the legitimacy of the watch and if all looks good, lets the deal go through ....of course, for a fee... |

Thanks Larry
There is a flip side to these newbies,as a frequent seller most of my sales come from first timers who have found this forum and recognize it professionalism. The Forum makes them comfortable enough to make a purchase from a total stranger. It is my duty then to cover my back and insure they are legit. So I guess my point is all the newbies should not be flagged as bad .Thank you and the other moderators for creating this great watch forum.

Larry,
I'm 100% with you there, my friend. People do anything to bypass the rules. Sometimes it is just an attempt to make a quick sale, but mostly fraud. Great job for keeping us safe, man. And folks - please, use logic when buying, don't get caught up in a 'good deal' stupor!

I haven't been on the forum here for that long but I have already seen tons of posts where people ask the value of a watch they just happened to come into possession of coupled with a veiled mention that they might be looking to sell. Thanks to the mods for looking out.

Thank you... Another reason TRF is the best Rolex forum on the planet, (well, and the company in the room as well...)

Oh Hi and Welcome to TRF!
Oh and by the way.....Nice watch! No, but seriously though. I see the point of this and it is clear there are quite a few folks out there trying to get one over on us. All we can do is be vigilent. We need to report these kinds of posts when they are glaringly overly obvious. The clever ones may get away with it, but there are also innocents in the mix. The vast majoirty I have seen lately, I get a gut feeling are trying to circumvent the system. It is in the greatest faith we trust the mods to do their very best, but they can't do it all. We need to be responsible for ourselves as well. Thanks Larry for the Awareness, it is important to point these things out, because the old timers get it, some of us newer folks are just barely beginig to understand what is truly happening here. |

Preach On Brother Larry!!!
A high number of posts means very little.to gain trust one should establish some positive feedback from previous transactions.i just passed up a golden opportunity on TZ for a sub, just cuz my gut.be safe everyone.

What if we make buyers and sellers pledge members first? This would possibly allows the mods to have more information on our members and assist in tracking down someone. I highly doubt a scammer would pledge. We could make this a yearly fee.
