The AD does not make 40%--they give them the watches at 60% of retail. A 10k watch costs the dealer 6k. I am really not sure what is so hard about that. Dealer sells for 5k --that is a 1k loss. Again---I will just stick to my simple math. It has worked well for me thus far in life!

If its factored 40% above wholesale cost, its based on there purchase price. Not deducted from the retail.

If the watch costs the dealer 5000.00, then the retail based on 40% would be $7000.00

Its not 40% taken from $7000.00 as that would be $2800 and thats not correct.

The ADs get their watches at 40% off the retail price, not that they only make 40% above cost.

Anyways when I walked in the first thing the lady I was speaking to pulls me over to one of the Rolex cases and tells me there having a sale. And half of one of their Rolex cases are all 50% off. She said the reason is, even though these are brand new rolex watches. There being sold at that price cus their warranties are in paper form instead of the plastic card. That's it. Other than that there brand spanking new. So I took a look around and I didn't see anything that I really know much about. I'm more into the SS sport models. There were a couple of women's President models, a few mens Date Just. There all gold models. There may have been a reg women's DD in there. I think the rest were Celini style models.

She wrote down a few of the models for me.

Women's
#85915 26MM 18K Champ RN Dial. Was $17,950. Now offered at 8975.00
Men's
#67389 36MM SS/18K Date Just BLK mop RN Dial Was 10,5K. Now 5,200.00
#74054 36MM Dome Bezel Date Just Blk Jubilee Dia Dail. Was 10,350.
Now 5175.00

So does anyone know anything about these watches. I'm just curious in the end why they would be selling them for so cheap?
Please send me their info on a PM.

Thanks,

So, if an AD purchases a watch at cost in, say, 2007, and the watch is sold in 2010 at current prices, the AD has made a rather large profit (versus buying a watch at 2010 cost, to be sold in the same year). Of course, the AD is essentially carrying the cost of the watch for 3 years (which has to hurt). I think that outside of the WIS' at this forum, most people wouldn't care if they buy a "brand new" watch that was made in 2007. Watches aren't like cars.

Even if the AD is going out of business or Is in need for cash... He can start clearing the Cartier and Breitlings before the rolexes... and if he picked the rolex to clear first I am sure that he can get 35% and 40% for them in the store... so no need to sell at 50%...it just doesn't make sense IMO...but I respect the fact that it was offered to you...
I will buy with my eyes closed

I just had two very reputable ADs in the major mall near me go out of business a few months back. I never saw them hit the 50% mark though. They started at 15% and as closing time drew nearer they increased to up to I believe 35% on their reminaing stock (which was not a whole lot). I asked one of the sales guys what would happen to the ones not sold and he said they would give them to other dealers, so I doubt bankruptcy is the reason for the 50% off sale. Of course I could be wrong, but either way Id like this stores contact info to give them a call and see if they are willing to deal.

Ok Ok,

So I just got home and checked my email and have had a lot of people asking for the number of this AD. So just to be fair here and I don't want to play favorites. The AD is Alvin Goldfarb Jwelers in Bellevue Washington. and there Phone number is 425-454-9491.

I talked to one of the ladies there name Patricia. She says that all of the Rolexs that are 50% off are indeed brand new. She said the 67389 36 mm Date Just with Mop Dial had sold today so it's gone. But everything else I believe is still there.

And also something else that I forgot to mention they have a GMT ll M series Pepsi with Diamond Dial. Which was $70,600.00 and is now $35,300.00. Now that is a deal for that watch!

They also have a handfull of Breitlings at 50% off as well.

So everyone who is either going to call them or buying something in person. Please tell them that Jonathan Oswalt sent you. So they know wear they got the refferal. This is one of my local AD's and I want them to call me on stuff in the future.

Good luck and hope you all get a good watch!

This statement is correct. And --if they are able to sell a watch within 30 days-they get an extra 2% off as well.

I remember that as well. I didn't go, but a client of mine went. He said all the good stuff was gone.
