I've had both.
I would only keep the 88 if I had another Panerai to go with it. The dial can get a bit busy at times and sometimes simplicity is just better. I had a 312 or anything else the resembles a more classic Panerai then it be a no brainer to get the 88. |

Update: I went to the place Vendome boutique yesterday and got to try on the 88. Man, it is one very nice piece. However, as I'm looking to get one PAM, I'm thinking I have to try the 111 on for size....I guess what I want is something a little more different from my ExpII. The 88 is a little busy and definitely on the sport side compared to the 111.
The boutique told me they've been told by Panerai to expect very few historic models this year....not sure what that is about, and I wonder if that was a "hard sell" tactic to get me to pick up the 111 when it comes in, but, anyway, just thought I'd pass along the info. One other thing, I tried on a 40mm model. It felt "classic" and seemed to "fit", but, it just didn't "grab" me like the 44 luminors. So, at least I know, it's 44 or bust! LOL. |

88 for me, more complications but if you have already have a Exp II then the 111 is the right choice.

Another thing about the 88 is that I have never liked skeleton hands. If those hands were filled, and the outer ring numerals were missing, the 88 would be stunning, even with the cyclops.

Here an option you might consider, it's close to the 88 with a less busy dial

To the OP-
I love the grey seconds dial of the 88- the 111 is more faithful to the DNA of the original Panerai models- it also has the better looking (IMO) 'sandwich' dial, and exhibition back. Um...I'd go for the 111.
