I had a 3717 and loved it, get one. The only reason I sold mine was because I wanted the bracelet and I purchased one on a strap. IWC bracelets are so much money to just go buy one so I sold the watch. I would love to own another on a bracelet this time, it is one amazing watch.

Don't get me wrong I do love IWC also, just not that model. I love the Portuguese 7 day power reserve or the big ingenier. One day

The SMP Chrono function can be used at depth...and there's a very good reason to have multiple redundant systems (chrono, bezel, dive computer, etc.) to time evolutions when you go under - it's called SAFETY. So that's the point.

100m meters is standard and ok for swimming. anything less than that requires the hassle of cleaning the watch and everyday life.

What???? When you swim, do you or anyone you know go down 100 meters??? You mean 60 meters just won't cut it for you in a swimming pool, lake or beach???? Again, its a pilot's watch, not a diver.........the only reason for a pilot's watch to have any kind of depth rating in the water would be when they were shot down or crash. This obsession with depth rating borders on ludicrous.

Skeleton hands on a chrono are a GREAT touch. For those that that actually use the chrono feature, it's nice to always have visibility of the exact time that has elapsed...something that I can say is not always the case with wide handed chrono's w/o the skeleton feature.

I've owned both, but I flipped the SMPC. Still have the 3717.

But to be honest I think they are two very different watches and never compared them against each other. I wear the 3717 on a leather strap and wear it to the office and for casual outings.

While the SMPC was to be my true sport watch that I could wear for any kind of outdoor activity and not worry about any issues. For which it is a perfect watch. I think one of the best value tool chronographs. The reason I ended up flipping it is because it sat too high on my wrist for my liking.

I don't think you can wrong with either one. But would just try them on and consider what purpose you want it serve.
