I would be willing to bet () that this individual has found people in casinos who were more than happy to turn jewelry into chips (cash) on the first request.

I neither gamble nor do I go to casinos, except rarely to bowl or eat, and I've met people like that throughout my life.

They are simply looking for someone who's having a weak moment or whose judgement is impaired in some way.

Funny story. Normally, I am offered to buy jewelry at casino's. the story is always the same - "I can't let my wife/husband know that I lost all this money." I have never given in as I would never be able to authenticate. Apparently, pawning off a wedding ring or watch is easier explained than losing money...

My son deals blackjack at a local casino. He has great stories and has been cussed out in virtually every language currently in use in the world.

My Uncle who was a dealer in Atlantic City has seen these blokes that prey on gambling men especially the ones on a losing streak coz they think they need money to get back their losses and would cave in to getting cash. And there are people who do take the bait. Makes you wonder where all these Rolex and Omegas without papers and box come from.

Or worse the chips could be fake. Lose your money on the tables, lose your watch to a conman and lose what little money you have to fake chips.

I do not approve of someone coming out of the blue in a casino and offering to buy a gambler's watch. For sure it is trying to take advantage of the circumstances in an unconscionable way.

Problem is the casinos are full of these types of people.

I prefer gambling on the Stock Market. My broker has never offered to buy my watch.

Just got home from a quick trip. Hopefully that never happens again. I'm a pretty pathetic gambler.
But I always win. I come into the casino with $200 and if I lose it I go home: that's my comfort level and what I'm willing to throw away for a little fun. If I lose the money I'm comfortable with gambling with, then I had fun and I still win... that's how to win at a casino.

That's a quick flip, from "maybe do it" to "unconscionable" - overnight epiphanies are like that

I think a friendly offer at the table is a simple proposition - just like a side bet or a prop bet at the table. It's done all the time. But when the prop gets testy I agree it is time to have him moved-out.

5k is a low-ball offer, so is 6. After taxes and stuff was paid my watch cost around $9000 (my wife won't give me an exact figure).

I always win at a casino because I only go to enjoy myself. I set a $200 limit or 4 hours, whatever comes first. Even if I lose my $200 I win, because I enjoyed myself; if I leave with more than I came with... gravy.
