Calling all Milgauss owners

Thanks for further comments... I took my little one swimming today and the thought of whether I'd wear a 100m water resistance rolex crossed my mind. I used to dive a decade ago with a 200m wr tag heuer. Is 100m enough to move about fast in shall water? It should be naturally. But would you be confident in taking a milgauss into the local pool as opposed to a sub? For some reason I'd hesitate but then who wants to leave it in the changing room locker or behind at home? Thoughts? Cheers.

Of course you can wear it anywhere. With the exception of the few professional divers on this forum, you will never come close to pushing this watch to its limits. To be blunt, if I was only going to own one Rolex, the Milgauss would not be it. I'd go Sub, GMT, or either Explorer. If you plan on starting a collection or you just really like this one specific watch then by all means, get it and don't look back. None of my Rolexes ever commanded as much attention as my Navitimer and that piece is now sold to make room for my brand new Milgauss. Get watches that you appreciate; whether it be their heritage or aesthetics. I get that this model turns a lot of people off, however if you come across another WIS in the wild, the Milgauss usually commands interest and respect.

Makes complete sense. The first rolex ought to be an all rounder. Ill try them all on and listen to my gut feelings. Cheers

People do not really notice it ( which is fine with me). Those few who have noticed it seemed to really like it.

I too got a very good deal, so it will likely be worth more than I paid after 5 years. As for doubling in ten years, no idea, not why I bought the watch. I enjoy wearing and do not anticipate selling it.

What % off did you get, if you don't mind me asking? I'm considering one.

No wiser words have ever been spoken! If you opt not to go for the Milgauss give a good look at the Explorer II. Great all around piece that you can get in either a black or white dial. The size might be a drawback for some if you are looking for something in the 40mm range. Of course there's nothing wrong with the Sub or GMT, I just like the case proportions more of the Explorer II. It's also a little unusual but still very recognizable as a Rolex.

However if you have a milgauss may I ask :

1. Is it your only rolex?

No, I've one other Rolex in the stable at this time, a no-date Sub, but this one gets the wrist majority of the wrist time

2. Do those in contact with you regard it as just another watch because it can be understated or do they eyeball it discreetly?
What colour dial do you have?

I went with the GV. There are few pictures out there that do it justice, but I think it's absolutely killer in person. I was torn between it and the white dial which I also like. A good friend who is not at all a Rolex fan took notice. He liked it. It's understated, but it does have a certain presence about it.

3. Do you think in five years time the watch will be worth less or more what you paid for it.?

In five years? I would guess at least as much as it cost now, not less. Perhaps more, but who knows. I admit, I couldn't care less. It's a great watch and I enjoy wearing it.

4. What about in 10 years time. You reckon it could be worth double if you take care if it? I know having a rolex us about enjoying the ownership and not for investment purposes per se but to give your view

I doubt it, unless Rolex were to drop it from their line right now, I don't see that happening.

3. Don't know, don't care. The Milgauss GV was to celebrate my 20th anniversary and I hope one day my daughter may give it to her son, or wear it herself.

I own 9 other watches, five of them Tag Heuer, which has long been my brand. I am not a snob and while my Rolex is my best watch, for it price it had Better be. I plan to wear the Milgauss as my "almost everyday" watch, but do mix it up once in a while.

I have the black dial one no green glass. I bought it used its my 4 Rolex. I wear it once in a while people notice the orange hand. Oh yeah the polished center is annoying i have to constantly clean it and it get scratched alot.

Here's my white one which I usually wear on weekends.



The bracelet does get scratched easily, so I have a few different bands for it.





I also have a Sub and GMT.

Not sure of the value down the road seeing as Omega has upped the ante with their caliber 8508. Don't really care though because I thinks it's a really neat watch.

I own a Sub and Explorer with a white dial. My Milgauss is the GV. No idea about future value. I wear it once it twice a week.

White dial for me. Haven't read thru all the responses but I absolutely love wearing it. I'm a big guy at 6'5" so a large watch is par for the course. Interesting thing is I've never seen one in the wild so to speak and I work in an affluent area with lots of exotic watches about. When I got it in 2008 they were very scarce since they just came out and the GV was impossible to find so I took the white one in the safe that was untouched.
It's not my only one and me thinks if they stop making it like they did once before they could increase in value but I really don't care. I love the watch and the white dial illumination is absolutely stunning. Good luck

2. The green gets a lot of attention, family, friends and strangers. Never received negative comments.

i have the white dial.

It's my first and only Rolex, although I bought it as a birth-year commemoration for my son, and I'll probably gift it to him as he gets older.

Some ppl I know admire the watch and have commented on it. I think non-WIS ppl associate the Milgauss as being a "Rolex" moreso than something like the Submariner, that is, non-WIS ppl tend to think of "Rolex" as being a flashy, shiny, three-hand round watch .. which is exactly what the Milgauss is.

It'll be worth more in 5 years. In fact, it's already worth slightly more than when I paid for it.

It may double in 10 years, but that will be due more to regular inflation that it would be to appreciation per se. I think it will appreciate handsomely, but probably not as much as the earlier iterations of the Milgauss.

The watch is much more flashy and shiny in person than it appears in Internet pictures.

What colour dial do you have? Black GV. I do think the black and black GV are pretty discreet, if only because they not recognized as a Rolex. The PCLs are a bit shiny, but I think when on the wrist , the orange elements are actually pretty subtle compared to seeing enlarged pictures of the watch. That being said, I tried on the white, and it was too much orange for my taste.

3. Do you think in five years time the watch will be worth less or more what you paid for it.? Probably less, it’s not a popular watch and resale on it doesn’t seem great. I would probably buy used now, as it is kinda hard to justify the price over like an Air King.

The only chance it really has to appreciate is either of it is really rare or Rolex continues increasing prices. 10 years doesn’t seem that long. I mean it’s been out for 10 years, and I don’t think the original owners are looking at a profit now. And being in production for 10 years, means I’m not sure how rare they’ll be in the future. I would bet more on like the SD4K appreciating.

Yes, a revived thread but interesting to see the direction that the Millgauss range has taken.

I still have my GV and it is still a favourite.

I could sell it now and not lose any $$'s.

It is still one of the Rolex models that doesn't stand out as a typical Rolex design.

It is the Rolex my wife likes the most in my box but I have not had anyone else comment on it.

I don't think it will appreciate in the near future.

Time will tell.
