I love that the 16610LV can be simply referred to as the "LV" and there is no confusion or silly nickname needed.

I always ask myself would they walk into a AD and ask for a batman, platty, bluesy, smurf watch and the rest of the IMHO quite silly names. If no then use the correct reference for the watch or the correct name its that simple even Rollie myself think is quite strange as a Rollie to me was a old film camera. And a Rolex watch is a Rolex watch and not a bloody batman, blusey, platty,or any other of the now getting very childlike names.

I do use the nicknames because they do describe the watches and have become common language/knowledge(also shorter when typing out a response and easier being lazy)on this Forum. But I do prefer using their "Real Names and Reference Numbers".....as these have worked for decades and are not hard to memorize!!!

Take it easy.....Leo

Life is too short, I do not care what people use to describe them. Nick names or model numbers, in the end I know what is being referred to. Have fun and enjoy!

Precisely...Opening up a thread that says something along the lines of

"Hey, neat BATMAN...My HULK says Hi!" makes me want to

They're Rolex watches, for crying out loud, and this isn't an action figure doll forum

There are certain nicknames I think are helpful, because it would be tougher to describe the watch without them. For example, I think it's helpful to describe my Tudor Submariner as a lollipop type. Otherwise, I might need to say something like "the type that has the hour hand with the circle on the end that doesn't have the three prongs inside." So the nicknames like lollipop, snowflake and mercedes help. Most, though (like Hulk, Smurf, etc.) I could do without, though it doesn't bug me when folks use them.

I am quite certain Rolex is developing a Pepsi Ceramic.
And I am dead sure someone will call it Captain America when it's launched.
And then, somewhere in near future, a gtg wrist shot will show a Hulk, Batman and Captain America. And then they will call the thread 'Avengers'

Brace yourselves.its coming...

I think the nicknames are useful in calling out a model without having to write out the reference. For example, instead of saying, "INCOMING.. Check out my new 116610LV!" You can say, "Hulk." Less characters is easier. I love playing guitar, and a lot of people give names to their guitars.

I think it's amusing. We got the Hulk, Batman. Let's continue this superhero theme. We need to complete the Avengers or Justice League!

Rootbeer? Iron Man
Pepsi? Superman
Any more?

I'm in the call it what you want camp and more often then not I use the number designation. I fall in the middle I guess but for some reason people calling them Rollie's bothers me more then calling them Hulk, Polar, Smurf, etc... With that being said I'm not a fan of batman. I much prefer LVc, Subc, DSSD, YM, DD, DJII, etc...

Not everyone has the same taste in watches and you dont see others disrespecting a specific model like you have done. By being disrespectful, you are insulting other members on this forum who have spent their hard earned cash to buy the watch that sings to them. n:

I don't use nicknames myself I must admit, I just never took the habit of naming watches with something else than their names or reference numbers, however, I don't mind people using them if they like them. To be honest I agree thay arguing over a watch's nickname is a tad silly but I can't help but think that, on the other hand, getting so sick and tired of people using funny names is as exaggerated. Nobody forces anybody to call this or that watc Batman, Bluesy, Hulk or Mary Poppins, it's not worth it to get that mad at funny names given to watches by some people.

Let's all lighten up and enjoy watches the way we want to!
