If you already have a black dial/SS, I suggest you try Gold+SS.
I used to have a bluesy but sold it because I felt the gold was flashy. Now I find myself missing it. I miss the color. My collection seems boring now haha

I’d say SS because it is your first and won’t be your last. TT is beautiful but is not an everyday beater or seem less appropriate for certain occasions due to the bling. Depends on your career and lifestyle I would imagine. Perhaps an LV might be a good consideration for its versatility in basic aesthetic mods………. straps (rubber, nato, leather) Especially being able to change bezel to black and be one of the coolest pre-ceramic sub in existence with the Maxi Dial.
But seriously, if you decide to go with SS I would consider the GMT llc because it has the iconic Sub look with a GMT function. From a glance it will always appear like a Sub, but up close and personal it glamours a Rolex GMT. Subtle, yet appealing difference. I'm a LN man not a BLNR kinda guy. |

If I was on the fence, this pic would do it for me. My vote is stainless. Absolute perfection IMHO.

Stainless if you are set on the Sub...but definitely look at the GMT2 if you are looking for TT or even all yellow gold...the green face/yellow gold GMT2 is now on my list even though I never have wanted a yellow gold watch before...

Subs in all gold are hard to beat. I prefer them with blue dials.

First watch SS In my opinion. TT prefer the LB or I would just get a GMT.

The reason I was asking for your advice . . . . . .
My wife of 29 years passed away from cancer a few months ago. We both own Rolex watches. We bought them both on my 40th birthday. Well actually she bought me one and a few weeks later, I bought her one.
For several months before she passed we had been looking at new Rolex watches. Kids about out of college and decided it is time to splurge on each other. Once we realized what the disease was advancing and where this appeared to be heading, we had to reevaluate and make different kinds of plans. We were able to have a lot of talks over those last days. One of them was about our watches, you see, she really loved our watches. She made me promise to get me a new one. Not trying to bore or sadden you but just wanted to share a little of what got me to this point. My watch is a 2000 Sub Stainless and it has been worn everyday and is never off my wrist. It shows some wear but is a part of me. My wife's watch is a two tone date just with black diamond face. This gets me to where I am today. Do I get a new stainless sub and sell my other one or do I get it serviced, keep it and get a two tone sub with a black face (which by the way is the one my wife loved). I'm thinking now that keeping my watch and buying the two tone black face sub is the way for me. Thank you for all you thoughts and advice. I now have two posts and I will try to post more often. I will even try to post pictures of my two watches when I get my new one. |

I will never ever can sell the watch that my loved one brought for me. I will say keep original her rolex and your rolex together and buy yourself the two tone sub with a black face. Your wife will be happy to see you the two tone rolex.

The only TT I really like is the TT DJ on jubilee.

Submariner Gold/Stainless or Stainless
Personally I don't like two tone watches so would get the stainless. However if you prefer the two tone get that one. Both are good watches just different looks.

I agree with Dr. Tom. If you are set with going with a black dial/bezel, go with black.
Personally I would go for the TT with blue. |

Hard to argue with either one...for me, if it's the first, then the SS. If it's the only, then the 116613 blue sunburst.

I love the blue dial as much as anyone but really do like the black and gold combo, so I would go for the TT even with black dial.

Keep your existing sub!! You will regret it if you sell, especially because a new one isn't any different really. Service it [tell them NOT to polish and just service the movement], and get a GMT two tone or two tone Sub to complement it. You can never get back a timepiece that you have stories and memories with.

I would keep the SS sub and get the new TT as you and your wife planned. If you can't keep your SS and purchase the TT, I would sell the SS and buy the TT according to your plans.

I got the black face TT Ceramic when it came out and I do regret selling it.
It is not an everyday watch in my personal opinion. The gold scratches extremely easy and unless you have it under a shirt sleeve all day it will look shabby in no time. I now have a SS Submariner that I wear everyday no matter what I'm doing and it is a true workhorse and always looks good. A lot better value too. |
