polish or not to polish

I've been gnashing my teeth over this one just over the past few days. I decided to have a very light polish as someone had put a satin polish on my 5513.

When I look at a used watch, I look at the lugs first and last. Once they are gone, the case is finito. So's the watch, as far as I am concerned.

A light polish never bothers me if done correctly.

The main reason I think people don't like to polish is financial. Always worried about the resale value. If you bought it new with no intention of selling (myself) then it doesn't matter. I've had 2 services on my Submariner in 30 years and both times it was polished at Bexley UK. It looks a bit beat up again now though.
If you service at Rolex don't they polish everytime. No choice? I believe they replace crystals, inserts, bla bla and then polish to make the watch look as new as possible.
This is my main reason for not getting it serviced as I don't want parts changing.
Remember in 30 years that new watches now will be called vintage so base your choices on looking at your watch 30 years in the future!

Depends. If it vintage no. New Rolexes why not at service time , there's a difference between a good polish and bad also of course.

There would be a psychological impact for me receiving my watch at service time, having spent a not insignificant amount of money, looking exactly the same as I gave it to them.

I prefer the unpolished look that's why I buy new or truly mint example. I don't like the idea of scraping off metal, sometimes it looks really bad and uneven shape of the case.

Only real watch enthusiast don't polish their watches and think they look great
If you think rolex make 800.000 watches a year so in 25 years there's going to be 20 million scratched vintage Rolexes out there I like my watch to look like it just came out the factory
