Do it. The nautilus is worth every penny. I would also look into a 5712 if possible.

Not for a 5711 - the second-most unimaginative buyer's choice in the PP line-up. Maybe a 5712, which looks a bit (lot) more funky, and has a much better-looking and more interesting movement.

I just did this last week.
Traded 2 plus $$$ for an Aquanaut, and very happy today. Actually content might be a better word for it. I loved the z blue & exp ii, but this patek just fits every occasion, all while giving me this quiet sense of satisfaction. |

Not for those 3, you should be getting cash back. 25off a 5711, yeah right, I need that guys AD if so. For the Portuguese and deepsea - full speed ahead.

Typically I would say don't trade so many pieces BUT IMO you have plenty of other options so I'd decrease the total number of watches you own and go for it. Once you get the 5711 it will be hard to take off so you only need a few pieces to occasionally switch it up

i wouldn't do it! too many watches to swap for a patek imo. may be for for a 5712 - worth considering.

Many people here on the forum, including you Arnaud IIRC, have included a VAT refund in calculating % off retail price. We know many EU countries have ~20% VAT and if an AD offered an additional 5% off, people will say they got 25% off. It can be misleading to some, but numbers can be reported so many different ways, depending on the effect one wants to achieve.

I would not make an impulse buy at this important juncture. Wait till the dust clears and then do if if you still feel the urge. Definitely do not rush into it.

I fully believe in quality over quantity, so if you love the 5711 enough to be your crown jewel, go for it.

If you love the 5711 more than any other watch out there, then do it. It is very easy to get swept away by forum and friends going for so called grails (been there, done that). Try it on and make sure that it is the ONE.
Otherwise you have a very nice trio - be grateful and happy! And congrats on upcoming wedding and baby! |

I totally would as I'm a sucker for consolidating. Beware though, once you get a PP you'll want to add another one soon.
Also, it's not easy to find a 5711, and a 25% discount would be even harder (if not impossible) to find! Personally I'd go for a 5712 over a 5711. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

When you see 20% tax you never get back 20, you get back 16.9 and that's if the dealer doesn't use global blue, so even with 16.9, can't imagine them doing you more than 2-3%, especially on a first buy on a watch they can sell without discounting... |

US has no VAT, but adds sales tax depending on the state. Most of EU have a VAT, somewhere around 20% plus/minus. Other countries around the world have a lower VAT. Places like HK have no tax. Russia, China, Brazil, etc have a 25%+ luxury tax. There is no way you can compare "discounts" or "% off" across all these countries and have a meaningful discussion on whether you got a good deal or not. A person can say he purchased a reference xxxx for $xx,000 USD equivalent from a certain country and he was able to take advantage of the weak currency and the VAT refund. But this person may have received zero discount and still came out ahead due to these other factors. Karl just posted the Swiss watch prices on another thread. For the 5711/1A, it is 21,000 CHF and you can subtract VAT from the price if you qualify. So why doesn't everyone fly out to Switzerland to buy the watch? We know that it is a matter of supply and availability. For those who live in North American or Asia, flying out to Switzerland is not as easy as it is for Europeans. So IMO comparing discounts and relative prices is an interesting intellectual exercise. But in the real world, the price you actually pay for a watch is limited by the AD connections you have, your ability to travel and some luck due to currency exchange rates at the time of purchase. In summary, I don't know if it makes a difference if you obtain 10% off (or even a 20% off) a 5711/1A from an AD in the US. If you were able to purchase the 5711/1A from the UK during Brexit and were able to take advantage of the weak GBP and qualified for the VAT refund, you would come out way ahead even with a zero discount from the UK retail price. I am not saying 10-20% off a 5711/1A is possible or impossible, I am just giving a hypothetical situation where comparing prices and discounts across countries is like comparing apples to oranges. |

I always put % by dealer, and VAT % off, or say the total includes VAT and discount. For the 5711, except if you bought from them a ton of watches, don't expect any discount IMO, why should they, they sell too easily...
