Is the Platinum Day-Date too Heavy for a Daily Wear

PM watches are not really too heavy IMO, it depends on you totally, some people wear large chunky and heavy watches and it works, you would get used to the weight as you wear it more.

It really depends on if you can get a good fit. If the watch is at all loose, it will move around and be uncomfortable to wear. There seems to be a little more latitude in fit with gold as the metal is lighter.

7 3/8” wrist here, and I could daily this 36mm platinum DD from a comfort standpoint. The smaller 36mm size really balances the watch for me and gives it the right amount of weight I enjoy without it being too much or unwieldy on the wrist. In contrast, I’ve also owned the platinum DD 40mm (several times…) and found that it was too big and too heavy in platinum to be a daily. YMMV

If I had to pick one of my watches to commit to for daily wear it would probably be the platinum dd40. I change up my watch everyday but when I go with the platinum it’s the only one I never put back and keep wearing. The weight is not an issue at all. It looks and feels fantastic. You really can’t do better.

I found the Platona annoyingly heavy over time. I suspect the DD40 would be considerably lighter. Unless you're set for the ice blue dial, an alternate would be a WG watch as it's hard to discern the difference other than on the wrist.

The Concentric dial added some depth to the dial and watch and it caught the light well. Both are fine but for a purchase like this I would search each out and see them in person before I made a choice.

It's not really about the weight for me. I have thin and bony wrists. I have a hard time wearing any Rolex bracelet 24 hours after a few days. I do find jubilee bracelets more comfortable than oyster. I've never tried to wear a president bracelet to bed or really long term. All my watches eventually go to NATO or gator, because the sharp edges of metal bracelets are eventually too much. But NATO I can wear for months. My Dad has had a 5513 on a NATO for about 17 years, and I don't think he takes it off. If you can wear a steel watch on an oyster, you probably won't have an issue with a 950 DD.

I have the DD40 platinum and while heavier than SS, yes but in no way prohibitivley so. I've yet to find a person who owns the platinum DD or Daytona disagree with this.

The bracelets on all DD watches have no micro adjustment. You can only add or remove links to try to get a good fit. This works most of the time but as my wrist swells or shrinks based on weather or activity it means the watch is either too large or too tight. For a watch that is as expensive as a DD, Rolex should have fixed this years ago. Once the Glide Lock and Easy Link Systems became available it was a game changer for me. Not that I don't like the DD, I do, but my watches will fit.

I disagree on the Platona. I owned it for four years and sold it. The creds of owning it weren't with the annoyance, imho.

Technically any Rolex is suitable for daily wear imho. I’ve seen people daily wear gold Daytonas, subs, skydwellers, DD, as if they were stainless steel pieces.

I've enjoyed mine for about two years. You will not notice the weight after a day or two.

Last week at Austin F1, a fellow bar patron tapped my 228206 and showed me his 228236.

Admiring his while he admired mine*, I realized for the first time that mine does not have true roman numerals at 5,7,9,11!!! How did I miss that!!!

It isn’t particularly heavy when compared to some other watches in my collection (Panerai, Bvulgari, Cartier XL). I would say it’s probably on par with the white gold YM II but I haven’t weighed them.

I wear mine whenever I want and never give weight a second thought. You will logically notice a slight difference for the first 30 minutes of wearing it after say a SS watch, but the difference melts away and you won’t give it a second thought after 1 hour. At least I don’t.
