What's funny about that is that Rolex still lists them as an authorized dealer on their website. I called them when I was looking for a GMTIIc.

Within a 30 miles radius of me we have always had 2 dealers until several months ago when Rolex pulled its franchise on one.

Rumor is they were dealing unfairly but I dont know that first hand. I dont place much credence in rumors.

One way to lose your franchise is to sell stock to secondary Dealers (Swiss, Furman). Rolex monitors sales of their watches and if a dealer gets caught,, BYE BYE

I think ADs may be going under or dropping Rolex due to the economy. It's tough to sell a $5K plus watch in the current economic crisis.

I stopped in my AD this morning and they offered a 15% discount on a new Datejust. If I got out my checkbook I think they may have taken off a little more. This dealer has never been willing to go below 5% off list before.

Times are getting tough!

One franchise here lost it's Rolex license - La Swiss. Not sure what the details were about them losing it for?

They continue on with two stores here and I've seen their stores in Eastern Canada. AD for Audemars P., Bovet, Breitling, GP, U.Nardin, and Zenith.

The remaining three Rolex ADs here are Brinkhaus, Palladio and Montecristo.

Yes, and rices are only going lower. I so want to by so many toys but if I wait I think it will only get better for me.

I could not agree with you more on Tourneau. That place has always come off as pompous and the sales staff as a general rule are totally ignorant of their product line.

I dealt with another Rolex dealer in Northern Virginia that also had the same problem. I walked into the shop looking to buy a Rolex and the White Gold Daytona caught my eye (I thought it was a stainless steel)--he pulled it out of the case and the price was $30k+. I told the guy that was out of my price range and he immediately went down to an Explorer, rather than showing me a two-tone Daytona for half the price. Dumbest salesman I've ever encountered.

I think it's a good idea for companies like Rolex to thin out the reseller herd and maintain standards. The dealer that I use in Northern Virginia (just outside Washington, DC) is generally well stocked and the sales staff is on top of their game. I always get a good deal and the after sales service is excellent, too.
