In Canada, the stock remains at the dealership who lost their license to sell as they bought it. It would be up to Rolex Canada if they wish to buy it back, but from my own personal experience, the ex-AD's are stuck with what they have. Seen it and heard it personally.

Not sure about the Rolex paraphernalia though. I've seen dealers who lost their AD status still selling their remaining stock using Rolex watch holders, Rolex signage, etc.

I won't name names but around my way, a Rolex dealer lost its dealership. Then one popped up at a jeweler 100 yards away.

2 NJ ADs losing Rolex this week.

Both ADs I had a history with.

Sad day for me.

In other news London Jewelers will be opening a storefront with Rolex at the Short Hills Mall.

That sucks. This is why to me the whole history thing is ridiculous.

From what I understand, the AD gets a notice beforehand that their agreement will be terminated on such and such date. So there is a window between the notice, and the actual termination that the dealer can sell off whatever they want for whatever they want. Once the date passes, Rolex has the option to buy back any or all inventory at the price the dealer paid. They can also take back all Rolex related materials, signage etc. back, and at the very minimum the AD must remove them completely from display.

This goes against what most think that Rolex is moving away from Mall stores to stand alone stores unless London Jewelers is opening a boutique?

Do they pay the AD the cost of the displays? Since Rolex mandates that they spend huge sums to upgrade the displays to their standards and then pulls the rug out down the line. I would think the displays are the Ad's property unless Rolex buys them for what they cost.

I was told Rolex is going there to buy back the watches but did not discuss anything else.

I’m guessing they are SOL in regards to getting comp back for Rolex displays.

I recently spoke to an AD that lost their status, and the watches were being sold for market price. No discounts. They did not have many in stock as it seems that once Rolex made the decision, they pretty much got no stock in the months leading up to the letter from Rolex.

If Rolex takes the dealership away why would they sell them for a discount wouldn't make more sense to sell them above retail to the Grey Market?

Yhea I would have been surprised if they got any thing back for the display buildouts.
And not that Rolex is doing them any favors when the buy back the stock. There is no stock to begin with, so what are they buying back a couple of ladies DJs?

I think this is how it's been for as long as I can remember. Back in the late '90s, I walked into an AD that I passed by almost every day. As I inquired about a watch I was told that their contract with Rolex wasn't renewed by Rolex and they were going out of business that week. No discounts, no "going out of business signs", just one day they were open the next day they were gone.

List of retailers losing “authorized dealer”status?

I seen multiple dealers lose status and they sold off remaining inventory.
At that time they discounted but that was several years ago. And it took a good year to sell it off. Wouldn’t be the case today I imagine

I would be willing to bet a paycheck (I'm retired ) that the dealer would have many, many places to sell desirable pieces at retail or more before the riff-raff is offered to the public. Good place to buy a piece for your wife.

Given the huge demand and how Rolex can contractually buy back at cost from the newly disenfranchised AD, I would be surprised if Rolex did not exercise that option today and redirect the stock to other ADs.

When my former AD lost their Rolex franchise @ 10 years ago I was able to pick-up a gold DJ at 50% off. He had mostly DJ's, DD's and some ladies watches left. No desirable models were in stock for the sale.

Good luck OP, in today’s climate I don’t see much opportunity but definitely worth a try. I knew two here in Florida that lost their status a few years back and the few remaining datejusts and day dates they had were 15-25% off. Different world though, back then it wasn’t uncommon to get discounts on professional steel models that you bought from cases.

My AD lost their status. Disappointing situation for everyone. Definitely will be an adjustment for them since they’re a mom and pop shop. And disappointing to me because now I have little to no spending history with an AD... I was close to a Daytona, but now it is either start over OR change brands.

In Canada it all goes back. The Rolex sign is removed within hours.

I believe it is Sidney Thomas in Short Hills and Morre Lyons in Clifton that will be losing their AD.

Here we have lost a few and it depends, if it is part of a chain then they send them to another location, if its a single location they often sell them but not at any real discount
