I think that is what it was meant for. All watches are meant to be worn. Daytona was made to be a tough daily,

I rotate between a few watches, but I have no problems putting my white dial DaytonaC through its paces just like I do with my other watches... I've traveled with it, slept with it on, yard work, wash cars, hiking, etc. I haven't had the opportunity to do any major excursions with it (I got out of the military before my DaytonaC purchase) but see no reason not to wear it the same way I wear my other sports watches...
When I was in El Yunque hiking, I had my BLNR on and another gentleman was wearing a 2 tone Daytona. I think that says it all... even jumped off of 40ft cliffs into the water and went down waterfall slides. |

Wear and enjoy ! The watch is tougher than your wrist.
If your son sees you wearing it everyday, it will mean infinitely more to him one day than it coming out of safe and just being an object, but with no real connection to you.

I’d have to have a heck of a lot more money to spend 5 digits on a Daytona just to sit it in a safe.
You can enjoy it for 18 years and get it polished to look like new if you are so inclined.

Daytona as a Daily
Buy for your son an OP, put it to the safe and hand it to him later on... Wear your watch every day sir. It is. It not a PF or AP, or a RM. It is made to be worn daily. That's why ROLEX are so popular and in demand.

My sons and I had a stand off for a few years while my feelings were somewhat hurt, I have no shame in admitting. The only one who dared broach the subject was my financially inclined son who knows I have high six figures tied up and asked to know roughly what each was worth and my best contacts for buying and selling, just so nobody made a stupid decision if I were in a car accident or something. I'm over it now. At least they'll have a liquidation plan. Millennials. |

Depends on the son being bequeathed with the watch. I plan to leave both new and used watch to my son someday. At least he would have options to keep or sell depending on his inclination and I don’t take personal on it. It’s his after bequeathing to him and he can do whatever he wants. Just think of the memories your son will have seeing you wear it all the time and how he will remember it. All the best yet with scratches you put on it for him to cherish.
Buy yeah, it’s better in a box..... |

Strap the mother on and enjoy the dang thing ! Your son will love it more seeing it on you and enjoying it, when it becomes his one day. Memories are the key not being new isn't. I know because I was blessed to get my dad's DD he had on his wrist the entire time since he bought in 1980. Give the scars of a well love watch than a sterile like new one that was never worn!

Daytona can easily be a daily wearer. Never understood the fitbit, It a simple matter of did I work out or not, if so how hard.

Daytona was my 1st Rolex. It was my daily for almost 6 months. It would have stayed that way had I not gotten other watches. Not that the Daytona was not fit for a daily, it's just that I like other watches too.

Is the question whether the Daytona can be worn daily, or whether it's the right one for you?
I too purchased a white dial ceramic Daytona after my second son was born with the idea that it would be his someday (first son will get my SD4K). I fell in love with it when it was first released, and still feel it's one of the most interesting pieces available. But that said, it never felt like "me". I found that I was wearing the SD4K nearly every day, with the Daytona coming out less and less often. I don't think it was the fear of scratching it or the hype, but sometimes things that look fantastic on others just don't look the same on you (at least in your mind). After a year of trying to convince myself otherwise, I finally admitted that it just wasn't the one for me. Even though it is an awesome watch, I wanted my second son to see me wearing the watch that one day will one day be his. So I traded it in for a new SS BLRO, which now gets worn regularly and just feels more natural on me. When I see pictures of the Daytona now, it still catches my eye. But I have no regrets. As others have mentioned, I'd rather have the watch be used for its intended purpose instead of sitting in the safe, and I think it will have more meaning to my son than something he never sees. But even if I'm wrong and my son ultimately doesn't care about the watch, at least I'm enjoying it more in the meantime! |

This watch is a rockstar among watches. Looks, comfort, spectacular movement (the 4130 boasted a 72 hr power reserve long before the new and improved 32-series with their 70 hr PR), it's one of the hottest watches on the planet for a reason.
Now, if you want to stick all that in a box, that's your decision of course. But...why on earth would you? |

If you feel you can’t wear it daily you shouldn’t own it. Just my $.02
These watches are meant to be worn

I am almost 40 so take this with a grain of salt. 99% of people younger than me I was born in 1978 that I know or encounter could care less about high end watches. A Rolex, AP, Patek etc timepiece to them is a complete waste of money to the vast majority of them. They rather have the cash in hand to spend on traveling&vacations, a new home down payment, paying down debt, newer car etc. The vast majority would rather buy a $300 apple watch and save the rest.

Just wear it and enjoy it. Your son will appreciate the wear that you put into the watch. I wore my Daytona almost daily for over a year when I first go it. It’s a perfect daily watch.

Wear it everyday and enjoy it. SS can be easily refurbished and the ceramic bezel should withstand beating. Such beauty should be enjoyed!
