How does one polish a watch and clean/lube the movement for 100quid? I cost about that per hour...

Price out a new clasp and then see how you feel. If the watchmaker will fix their mistake, why now have it repaired?

Is it my imagination, or did they polish off more than just that one corner? The edges on the whole clasp look a little rounded.

Yup! They ground off tons of material on that clasp in multiple spots. Unbelievable!

Not overly concerned ?

Clearly this was an amateur job. I’d be making sure they pay for it.
Sometimes I don’t understand how people pay thousands for their watch, then look for the most economical service.

Kudos to the OP about just moving on... I wouldn't be nearly as calm and collected.

Very poor job but if the OP is happy then that's their call!

OK I will say it first, it’s just Watch RSC will buff that out

Erm maybe it’s just me but does it not seem strange the OP is very laid back about the damage, but couldn’t live with a scratch.

I guess it just a few thousand $ damage, could be worse. The OP should have had a go at the scratch themselves (oh did I say that out loud, l must remember to use my inner voice)

Enjoy the sub in good health, life to short and you could have much bigger problems

Sorry, but there is nothing to buff out when that much material has been ground off. The only feasible thing for RSC to do is replace the clasp with a brand new one.

This may have been answered, but did Rolex refinish this or someone else?

You seldom get more than what you pay for. I'm sure he will pay dearly at service time for that "cheap" lubrication and regulation.

Dude, you need to read. This was answered in the third post and is a central premise of the entire conversation.

Yeah, was just thinking I bet the OP wishes he hadn’t posted this now! That said the finish on the clasp in general looks overdone to me, it looks a little too ‘shiny’.

For what was paid I can’t see them replacing anything, I can just see a lot of aggro for the OP - maybe a lesson learned?

I'd be pretty furious and headed straight back to whoever did this botched job on my watch! I don't really minds scratches and dings that I do myself, as these are my own personal "war stories" but to have some idiot grind down my watch is not a war story. If you just ignore this gross negligence, you are crazy in my opinion.

Me too. You should not let them get away with this just on the principle of the devious neglect of them not owning up.

A war story is going into a firefight, taking a bullet, getting patched up at the MASH, and living to tell about it. This guy went in to his primary-care doctor for a routine physical, and came out with a bad nose job.

Not overly concerned as the service was brilliant apart from that, and cheap.

And now you know why.

You posted up a glidelock issue.

Now it is not an issue?

Yeah, I’m not one to psychoanalyze people but somethings a bit odd with the thinking processes of the
OP.

Man, tough crowd.

Yeah, it's a bummer. To me it might be worth taking it as a lesson learned and pay for a new clasp in 5 years.

But you guys are totally right. One should righteously bitch the perpetrator out, forthwith.

How much is a clasp? $400? More?

It's kinda like taking in a car for a polish/wax and getting it back with a smashed fender.

It would grate on me, eventually.

It is a matter of trust and confidence in the ability of the watchmaker that did this. He damaged the clasp and had to notice. I can almost hear him... 'Oh shit, looked what I did. Hope he doesn't notice.' So after he damaged your watch he didn't tell you about it. But then you are happy that the work you can't see was done properly with appropriate oils? I wouldn't trust that guy with a watch in the future.

Can you post pics of the rest of the watch? I'd be really curious to see what kind of number they did on the case.

They overpolished virtually all the sharp factory edges on the clasp of your watch Andy, if your ok with that then all is well.
The “dent” that you ask about in the op appears to be where they leaned on the the wheel long and hard and ground off the stainless steel edge.

Try to even buy a glidelock clasp anywhere, If you do it will be with the bracelet and that will be minimum $1500 if some 3rd party sells it to you, nobody selling the clasp alone... Rolex won't sell you the clasp alone and they charge easily $1800 to $2200 if I recall for the bracelet/ clasp set....

If it was me the d u m b a s s that polished it will be buying me a whole new set...
