Death is for drugs of a very high qty / type, can also be 20k fine and an ass whoppin' you'll NEVER forget. Singapore also canes, and they hit hard as I've seen videos. Lived in Singapore for a few months and truly love it there. Great country, very safe overall.

The guy who stole the Rolex WILL get caught, and WILL be held to account. Singapore is very upfront about their laws. Frankly, just don't be an a$&hole and you'll have an awesome time. Oh, and plan to gain weight, the food stalls are spectacular!

Just for fun, I looked up Singapore's sentencing guidelines for theft. Depending upon other factors it appears if he is just a first time a-hole then he could be caned a few times and get seven years in the pokey. Death. . . lol.

Not sure about Malaysia but convicted Singaporean criminals released from prison do not have a different ID card from any other Singaporean citizen. Not sure where you're getting that information from.

I think it’s pretty clear he meant that in order to get a job in the future he would need a fake ID (‘different ID’); as every time he tried to apply for a job his criminal record would be flagged up on the system. He would basically never be able to get a job based on his ID card details

Pretty sure he was referring to the popular urban myth in Malaysia that an ex con has a different coloured identity card. As to whether that is true in Malaysia, I don't know. I'm saying that is not how things work in Singapore, from an ex Singapore Police officer's point of view (mine). I personally know ex cons who have found jobs without having to get a fake ID. So again, that may be the case in the UK, but probably not so in Singapore.
