Vanessa, THANX for the insight into learning to be a watchmaker and looking at your PICS was very interesting. If I could do a career do over I would probably become a watchmaker. I find it very fascinating and looks to be a satisfying career choice(working on something different each day).

I did actually, because the previous "watchmaker" used a non-Rolex screw on one of the parts, so I had to replace that with a genuine one. So I was left-over with a "bad" screw!

As a matter affect I do, and I love it, because it gives me the chance to get out of my workshop and talk to the customer. Explain to them face to face what exactly was wrong, and what I need to do to fix it. I also let them know which parts were replaced. Most customers don't care, but there are a few that are very interested!

You're welcome. If I could choose a new career, I would probably do the same... Even though the money isn't very good, it relaxes me to work on watches and I really take pleasure in a time piece running well after I serviced it!
It does tend to get boring sometimes though, because I do the same all the time, really.

Let me know if there is anything you would like me to write about!

I agree with Tempo. Vanessa, I'm in San Diego, (Why did you leave my city?, ) there is only one watchmaker that I'm aware of that's any good around here, Brian at BB in UTC. But I come to AZ often and would like to have you take a look at my Daytona. I'll PM you to find out where you work and if it's OK with you, will drop off the watch my next trip.

I must be one of the lucky ones, Vanessa is only a 20-30 min. drive from my house. I am so thankful to have found a competent watchmaker in my local area, I have already told her she can never retire. I will never send my watches to a RSC, Vanessa does just as good of work, and I know were my watches are at all times.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I simply asked a question.

Anyway, I'm a self-taught hobbiest watchmaker and am always interested in the subject. Please don't read something into my question that is not there.

Continuing on....

If you care to write something, I'd be interested to know your opinion of the Rolex movements and how they compare quality- and durability-wise to ETA, Omega, etc. I have serviced ETA movements but not Rolex.

Also, I've spent a great deal of time in Antwerpen teaching hand engraving.

My sincere apologies Triplock.

I thought you had read Vanessa's introduction and I misunderstood your question.

Where do you do your watchmaking? Jewelry store?

I didn't take offense about what you wrote no worries!

The durability and quality of Rolex movements is unsurpassed in my opinion.
Yes ETA are great movements as well, but the simplicity and ruggedness is what makes a Rolex so great! I don't mind working on ETA's, I actually love the 7750, but I'll rather work on a 3135!

I went to the school in Antwerp (T.N.A.) where they teach hand engraving! I actually wanted to take that course in the evening classes because one of my friends told me how cool it was! (I still wear a ring he made and hand-engraved for me!)

So if there is anything like that that you would like me to post about, let me know...
Here is one suggestion if possible. Could we get shots of parts that are failed? In another post you spoke about wear marks - might be interesting to see how bad the wear has to be to be replaced. Just a suggestion :)

Glad to know you are in AZ.

I don't have the camera equipment to make those close ups of the worn parts, but I'm sure there are a lot of pics to find on-line.
When I have some time (one day ) I'll search them and make a thread.
