No haven’t looked for rare diamonds... I’m not a diamond fan. I know way too much about the industry to get excited, My tiffany sales person knows every diamond I buy I’m burning money... she doesn’t lie to us at least. Which is why we have a good relationship

I guess my view on the 5231 is that if you have an enamel WT u want to see the enamel...not a huge PATEK PHILIPPE across the North Atlantic!!

I respectfully disagree, I don’t think it takes anything away from the dial or the enamel

I’ve tried both, and I love both. But the 5132 is discontinued and I’ve never ever bought from a grey

The WT is probably the least loved function...they sit in every AD in every metal....however...slap some enamel with the promise of doubling your money and you cant get them....I wonder how many owners would actually have a J by preference and a WT other than pure financial reasons...I would allocate only to those existing WT owners

I would happily have a J by reference, that’s why I’ve asked for it (as have many other collectors). If money is your motivation, you don’t pick a dress piece like this, but hey if that’s what floats your boat so be it!

How do you get "offered" a 5131 or 5231? It's an application piece...in the UK you would be allocated by Rhone not the AD...an AD would put your name for consideration but certainly couldnt promise anything ...I guess in USA they are allocated to AD's to offer to the biggest whales

ok, you want to know precisely...i was at the factory last week and at some point we were given the chance to ask for pieces we would like to have (nautis and aquas excluded, by mutual understanding). first i asked for 5131P and a few hours later i was told ok, early-mid next year. the next day, when most of the PP kool aid had dissipated, i politely said that i had changed my mind.
there you have it:::)))
anyway, i shall get the 5231J next year.

Thats interesting as it proves that the 5131P has not been discontinued so there is hope for those who qualify

there was talk of just very few more pieces remaining - i did not understand whether that means remaining for production or for allocation. it was however classified as officially discontinued, whatever that means.
i recall the 5170P being officially discontinued but more pieces kept turning up at ADs.

thanks. i tried the watch a couple of times during our time with PP and decided i like it in spite of being rather uninterested in dress watches. not sure whether it will be highly desirable in the future though.

Interesting. Well as always buy what you like is the way to go. I’m surprised the 5131P was an option and Nautilus and Aquanaut were not, they are infinitely easier to get than the Cloisonné pt WT.

Congrats as I think this is where Rhone gets things right...passionate collectors without huge collections get the opportunity to get their grail as opposed to pure spending power

They had a 5520P but they were not allowed to take it out from the showcase. I can't recall seeing a 5531R. They had museum pieces such as 542, again not allowed to try.

They had all the current world time and travel time pieces and people could try those. They even had a 6102R

in terms of numbers surely but the 5131P has a very limited following, also among the group that was at PP with me. but honestly speaking, they did not try to push it onto me:::)))) it was presented as a favor to my AD and to myself but there was no issue when i refused.

it was a naughty tour, not for the young and fainthearted:::))) joking of course.
we enjoyed it actually, the museum was interesting and the two factories as well. we saw movement production (particularly the MR section), talked to a watchmaker, saw case production and got to try most of the collection. food&drink was outstanding and the weather played along beautifully.

At the WT event I was keen to try the 5520P on my wrist, I expressed an interest with my AD at launch but they wouldn’t allow me to handle the piece. I was even asked by my AD to show my WT to a couple of clients as the 5231J and 5131P weren’t allowed to be handled. It was a very odd scenario.

UK policy means an owner of a J,G or R can’t apply for a P. AD still has a wait list that they simply can’t supply for people who have waited years - it was indeed a huge favour to offer you the piece.

Both things would have annoyed me.

Maybe you should have worn a 5711; that would have classified you as a real Patek aficionado
