5712 wearability in terms of comfort and appearance is off the chart but once again the scratching of the bezel really is tough as an everyday piece. Two great watches but many other choices as a daily I believe. |

For me PP 5712 of course…
Daytona is too small for my opinion. |

I voted for the 5712 because I rank it up there as one of the best Nautilus ever designed.
It also has a date which makes it more suitable as a daily. And has a beautiful display case with the 240 micro rotor. The platona is a very different watch. Chalk and cheese really. |

The Pt Daytona’s brown bezel does nothing for me and the dial layout on the 5712 is just a disaster.
How could anyone design a dial like that one? Chopped indices, missing second markers and a power reserve for a watch that you would have to wind every day when not wearing? I pass on both.

Neither. But if forced to pick, would choose the 5712. Love the blue on the platona but the brown does nothing for me. Date missing and a useless chrono, choice is easy for me. Plus the blue dial on the 5712 is awesome.

5980 would be my one and only, soon to be mine 4th and only. Against popular opinion, I don't like the bezel or dial on the Platinum Daytona, much prefer the 5712. My subjective opinion but can't rationalize how you guys say a light blue dial and brown bezel (not a fan) is a versatile color scheme.

I love the 5712. I own a 5711 and couldn't be without one modern nautilus (ideally), but as a one and only, I would go Platona without a doubt.
Sure the 5712 is capable to handle alot, but we can't deny that the scuffs do take away from the beauty of the brushed bezel. I do wear my 5711 often and don't mind the minor scuffs, but could not imagine how it would look if it was a daily wear for everything and alll occasions. |

I voted 5712 as the Platona doesn't do much for me. Of course there will be lots of scratches when wearing a 5712 everywhere and all the time, but a banged up Nautilus is still beautiful in my eyes - only the stage between mint and banged up is difficult.

5712a hands down, and I really like the Plat Daytona.
Then spend a few hundred and get a G shock or something similar (diver/beater). |

Just sharing - the folks at the Rolex forum preferred the platona 51% to 5712 49%.
Platona wins. |

No real answers... Patek forum 5712 wins.... Rolex forum order Platona...... I think you should talk more with owners/previous owners of both before you make a decision. Not just guys who has one or the other.

5712 for me.
Admittedly, I just don't get the platona. I don't really love the ice blue face... I don't have a strong feeling for the color of the bezel... I really don't like the weight... I have the WG daytona on bracelet, and that's at the max of what feels comfortable. The idea of having something 50% heavier than that, to me, is just way beyond anything I would ever want to wear even occasionally. |

Very close indeed! Do you still own both Richard? Looking at a picture of both side by side on your wrist would be nice

I wouldn’t wear either one as a daily, and at minimum I’d have a SubC to go along with. I don’t know that I’m ready to be a single watch guy. I’ve never taken a pick of two side by side because the angles and placement of one of them on the wrist, always distorts one or the other, IMO.

I went 5712. I do not think of it as "dainty" Its more robust than you think, but its not for swimming due to the correctors. Both watches are scratch magnets. if that is a concern get a DD.
