This would show the hands in great proportion and be uniform across the display.
+1, it would be nice to see all the Rolex watches displayed with this. I'm not particular but definitely agree to not put on unnecessary wear and tear on the watch, especially if you're not going to buy it. But when you do, of course wind it and then set to the correct time and date.

I have heard from a few ADs that they should set the watch before handing it to the customer. I agree with the comments that the less setting of the watch the better before I buy it. A watch should only be set when it is purchased. Can you imagine a piece that sits in a case for years and is set every time it is shown. Talk about "shop wear."

I’m sorry you think the responses were hard, but your question is indeed ridiculous. The thought of keeping all the watches continuously wound is insane. If you want to make sure a brand new watch runs why can’t they just set it for you when you ask to look at it? When you go to look at a car are you mad they are not all running? Or are you fine with them starting the car to show you it works?

I feel this is a loaded question. We’ve already established it’s not commonplace nor expected a watch be wound and set to the current date and time.

Your question is non equative. Watches, especially higher end watches are expected to keep exceptional time. When I go and visit an AD and look at a watch that’s 15 days ahead and 7 hours that doesn’t tell the customer the watch is what they want.

I don’t leave my car running 24 hours a day 7 days a week. So NO I do not expect a car to be running when I go to look at cars.

As many posts and comments I see of people who have Rolex’s for 20+ yrs without leaving their wrist let alone a service I am surprised everyone is worried about the slight wear of keeping time in a case.

I am also familiar with boats and cars and if you leave them sit too long without action they start deteriorating. I’d rather have a well oiled movement or motor instead of one that’s sat dormant for who knows how long.

I have already called no joy on this thread, any subsequent negative responses will be met with ridiculous responses since the point has already been made.

I’ve never bought a new watch so I don’t necessarily know the process if they take one out of the back in its box and give it to you unmolested or if they take the one out of the case that God knows who has had it on.

It did seriously trigger my OCD a little though not being set or wound.

My last three Rolex, all SS Professional models at the same dealer, were presented to me right out of the shipping coffin. They were never in the case or shown to anyone else. More common models that are in the display case are the ones you’d be buying unless by coincidence they had multiples of the same model.
I don’t care what time a watch is set to when I’m trying it on.

AP boutiques hand wind every watch every day. Just go buy an AP and problem solved.

Now imagine some careless sales person quickly winding all the watches and setting the time before running off to lunch or so

No thanks

No, as mentioned there are no “demo watches”. You buy the watch that’s in the window (or from out the back if you’re special).

AD staff shouldn’t be putting daily wear and tear on them, messing with crowns, winding daily, changing dates etc.

Also imagine the time spent doing that every day. It’s a fair job in an AD just to get the windows filled in the morning (with all the hundreds of Datejusts). The ADs wouldn’t be open until lunchtime

So sorry, you’ll need to have it set when you buy it instead

I find it’s a good opportunity to set it yourself and fiddle with it.

Sounds like an excellent formula to scratch, drop, cause unnecessary wear, damage a brand new watch. Have you seen all the rings and bracelets that most women wear, just asking to scratch a watch.
In my opinion they should handle the watches as least as possible.

If you have doubts about time keeping, a watch with the correct time doesn’t necessarily mean it keeps good time. Just conduct a detailed inspection and ask if they can put it on a time graph mabbober thingy.

So no, leave the damn watches alone.

Well the boutiques in Madrid or Dubai didn’t do that. Most were stopped or on some random time. That has been my experience. In fact, I can’t recall ever entering any boutique of any brand during all my travels that the watches were correctly set or all wound and running. Ymmv.

I would not like to have a sales assistant wind a watch I want to buy. Owners privilege to start it up imho.

Does it look nice to see accurate time and date when you request to try? Sure.

Would I want the store actually wearing down a timepiece I may want to procure? Absolutely not.

Have to agree but hope you have not started another Rolex syndrome, the
{ADWNSAOD} AD watches not set accurate on display syndrome.

How do you come up with an idea like this?

Maybe they can put the watches on watchwinders so they don't have to wind the watches every 40-70 hours.
There is space enough in the window cases because of the lack of supply.

No, thats a ridiculous thing to even ask or consider. Have you even thought how long this might take an average size retailer to do for all their stock??

What time or date the watch says is irrelevant to whether you would buy it or not.

I frankly turned down a White Daytona because when I tried it on, it wasn't set correctly. I'll never go back to that AD again.
