As a general rule of thumb I would say that if there are a couple of precious metal pieces that you want and you tell your A.D. about all of the stainless stuff you want while you’re buying it, you will probably get this watch very quickly. If you don’t really wanna buy other pieces to get what you want, then I would not get this watch from an A.D. I would just pay the going market rate.

Hey congrats on acquiring the GMT!

Out of curiosity - when building that relationship with an AD with a PM purchase, does it matter which reference you are buying?

As an example, I am seriously thinking about getting a WG Daytona. If I get this piece from an AD, would that help my relationship? Or, will AD make me buy some other PM piece that I do not want? such as Datejust two tone, etc

thanks

Here is the best advice I can give you. Find out who the manager is somehow and figure out if he/she does sales too or just manages the store. They usually also do sales. The other SAs are at the mercy of the manager for allocations and pecking order. Don’t ask them to get you anything and precious metal. Start visiting the store and being very polite. Wait until there’s a precious metal watch in the store that you actually want to spend money on. See if you can purchase it directly from the manager instead of another SA. Now the manager is your SA. Upon purchasing the precious metal watch, strike up a conversation about the other pieces you would like to add to your collection. Save the manager in your phone contacts. Then you will see if they use WhatsApp. Then stay in contact with them and remind them of the watches on your shortlist. Don’t make every message nagging them for a watch. Also send pictures of you enjoying the watches they did get for you and telling them thank you.

Thanks for the detailed advice.

This process sounds a lot like how I scored coveted job interviews when I was looking for internships during college years. lol

I have a couple of SS Rolex watches now, but looking to add more pieces. I will see if I can apply your advice. Thanks!
