Classic Omega foot in mouth moment.
Instead of focusing on a continuous design philosophy like Rolex with the Sub, GMT and Daytona line they turn out variants or 'special editions' on a classic watch that bring nothing to the table other than a chance to market the latest and greatest. I can recognise a 1960 Sub as a Rolex sub. Omega? no. If you want a speedie, buy a speedie 42mm 3 dial. While I don't doubt its a wonderful watch , give it a new name....tits not a Speedmaster. |

Swing and a miss.
Wow! So much potential. I wish Omega would just KEEP IT SIMPLE and consistently release products that have class, elegance, and tasteful design (which is true of the Moonwatch, i.e. their most successful product line). This dial is hideous. WAAAY too cluttered, difficult to read, too many numbers and too many circles with timing metrics. I hate that the sub-counters have the overlapping circles and numbers on them. Too busy. It just looks bad. Speaking of looking bad, look at how inconsistent and messy the hands are on the white dial. The seconds subdial has a white hand, the chrono subdial has red hands, the running-seconds hand of the chrono looks like a barber shop with striped red and white, the main hour/minute hand are black. For good measure, the tachymeter throws in red font for the first 3 markings... why not!?! Let's put a little green and blue in while we are at it and release a limited OLYMPICS version. A pity, because I like two-register chronographs and this is a vast improvement re: thickness from their Speedmaster Racing series. The bracelet here also looks to be very nice, and the clasp finally has a tool-less adjustment, but only 2.3 mm of microadjustment?? REALLY??? Couldn't add ONE MORE notch and make it more functional with two adjustment stations (one at 2.3 mm, one at 4.6 mm)... |
